Models Chanel Iman and Naomi Campbell are both featured in the latest issue of V Magazine. The icon and icon in training both give good face for the magazine’s first ever swimsuit edition. Naomi landed the cover of one of 6 the magazine released and did so with bunny ears on. Channeling a bit of Marilyn Monroe I believe, the 90s icon is captured all decked out in full Playboy Bunny attire. And though Chanel did not land a cover for herself, the young model did get face time inside the magazine and gave insight on her future acting plans, what her tattoos mean and what model she most aspires to be like.
Glamour Magazine celebrates it’s 70th Anniversary by paying tribute to 13 women they consider icons. Among those chosen were First Lady Michelle Obama, singer Billie Holiday and 1950’s tennis star, Athena Gibson.
Helping Glamour to pay tribute to these women, singer Alicia Keys, actress Paula Patton, and model Chanel Iman, all posed as their icon and shared their thoughts on the impact these women have had on their lives.
I didn’t know this until the other day, and I don’t know if it’s a good thing, or bad, but Chanel Iman is the first black model to walk the runways of Gucci, since 2005. It may sound bad, but what’s worst is that British model, Jourdan Dunn, walked for Prada last season, and was the first brown sista in 10yrs!!
Former Gucci designer, Tom Ford, ended his reign in 2005, so maybe it’s the fault of current designer, Frida Giannini, why it has taken so long. And, why only one black model? I know it might not seem like there’s a lot of black models around, but believe me, there are. They just don’t get the same chances.
* So, my question is:
– If you were a black model, and in Chanel or Jourdan‘s shoes, would you feel honored to be employed to a company such as Gucci or Prada?
The Brown Sista models are this year’s hottest runway trend. From the young’ns Chanel, Jourdan, + Arlenis, to Victoria’s Secret Supermodel Selita Ebanks [middle in above photo], these ladies lit up the catwalk.
