Singer/Actress, Ashanti, will be featured on the November Cover of King Magazine. The “Hollywood Issue”, as it is being dubbed, will feature not only a pictorial by Ashanti, but actress Elise Neal, who has also graced the cover in the past. As many of you know, Ashanti recently released her first single, Hey Baby, from her forthcoming CD, Declaration. The single was sent to radio stations on September 25th, so we should all expect to see a lot more of Ashanti in the coming weeks, as promotion for Declaration gets underway. You can check out Ashnati’s beautiful cover to your right and head on over to King’s official website to see exclusive behind the scenes footage of the cover shoot.

Foxy Brown isn’t letting a little thing like jail stand in her way of making music. The sista has released her first single, We Will Not Surrender, and to your right is what I am told is the cover art for that single. What can I say? The sista looks good. As many of you know, poor Inga Marchand will be “away” for the next year as a result of her breaking the terms of her probation. It seems the moment she was locked up her label decided to rush her single to capitalize off of the media attention. However I don’t think it’s going to work. With Foxy away she can’t promote her single and album in any way and going to jail to pump up album sales doesn’t work anymore and honestly should have never worked.

Singer Keyshia Cole has managed to do something I said she would never do- snag the cover of Essence Magazine. Yep, our sista’s stock is definitely rising as Keyshia will be featured on the cover of the October edition which is on news stands now. Keyshia is interviewed about the usual fodder, men and of course the constant comparisons to Mary J. Blige. Will the interview be interesting or tell us anything we don’t already know? Probably not- but because Keyshia is on the cover I’ll be picking it up anyway and I suggest you all do the same. Partial excerpts from the interview can be read on the next page and hopefully within the next few days BJ Skanz will have the high quality photos from inside the magazine.

Singer Rihanna covers the September edition of Atlanta Peach magazine and touches on a number of controversial topics in the interview. Rihanna continues to talk about the impact the Jay- Z rumors had on her career and her relationship with Beyonce. Also discussed were her numerous tattoos, how she handled being pushed to the side in favor of Teairra Mari, and why her own countrymen seem to hate her so much. You can read a few snippets from the interview on the next page and check out Atlanta Peach’s website here.

Singer Ciara took time off from headlining the Screamfest tour to promote Rocawear’s I Will Not Lose campaign at Macys Herald Square. I cannot even feign the slightest bit of interest in this story because I really think it’s boring at this point. What are we suppose to be buying, the sob stories in these commercials of the clothes? I want to see a hot fashion spread or something from Ciara, anything except what we are getting now. Rocawear has a beautiful young woman as the face of their women’s line and yet has no idea what to do with her.

With word that Vibe Vixen would be no more after the Aug/Sept edition, folks are once again scratching their heads and wondering why so many magazines aimed at Black women seem to fail. Granted, few magazines are ever geared towards sisters, but in the last 3 years, 3 of the most visible to do so, have ceased publication: Vixen, Honey and Suede. Now in the past I have written about exactly why I believe Honey folded, but Suede came and went so fast that I never even saw it, while Vixen was an on again- off again project that just never really took off.

As previously reported, Vibe Vixen has released it’s final issue with Rihanna on the cover, and in true Vibe style, they sent me my digital and print issues weeks late. I am somewhat forgiving though as this issue doesn’t appear to be half as boring as many of the others. Hoping to go out with a bang, Vixen not only featured Rihanna on the cover and in an amazing fashion spread, but also had a great round table discussion with various women in the entertainment field about the representation of Black women in the media and even threw in a little scandal by featuring a very in depth interview with Karrine Steffans. Oh, and did I mention fellow Brown Sista blogger, Natasha Eubanks of YBF, is also featured in the magazine?
