Not literally of course- unless you’re into that kind of thing (lol). But seriously, if you were someone else and you met yourself exactly as you are today- would you date yourself? Are you dateable at the moment? What do you have to offer another person in a relationship? Are you happy with yourself? Do you love yourself? Do you need someone else to love you first?
Yeah- I have a lot of questions tonight…

A few days ago I got an interesting e-mail from a man who says his name is Brian. Brian for some reason came to this site, used my contact form, and sent me a very lengthy e-mail explaining to me why he hates and refuses to date Black women. Brian titled his e-mail “My Confession”. Brian contacted me, a Black woman who runs a site in support of other Black women, to confess his dislike of us. Why? Why me? What made this man come to Brown Sista, see what I do and then feel his confession would be of interest to me? What exactly was Brian trying to accomplish with his e-mail and why was he trying to accomplish it with the very type of woman he claimed to despise- A Black Woman?

Holiday movie, This Christmas, starring Regina King, Sharon Leal, and Lauren London, came in #2 at the weekend box office, taking in a whopping 28 million dollars. Hot on the heels of Tyler Perry’s Why Did I Get Married?, which has grossed over $54 million to date, along comes another ensemble film featuring an almost entirely black cast, and it’s grabbed a huge 5-day opening of an estimated $28.73M and a weekend-best $15,465 per theatre average. If those numbers hold, This Christmas will have delivered the all-time 13th-biggest 5-day Thanksgiving opening.

Alicia Keys will once again be at the top of the charts when her new CD, As I Am, debuts at #1 on next week’s album chart. On the strength of her hit single, No One, As I Am will possibly have sales as high as 550,000 according to Hits Daily Double, easily beating out Celine Dion’s new CD, Taking Chances, which should come in at #2 with sales of about 250,000- maybe more. If you guys remember we discussed who would top the charts as Celine, Britney Spears and Alicia were all due to go head to head before Jive moved up Britney’s release date by a week. Many of you thought Britney would easily win but I knew better. Britney has lost all sexual appeal which is what her career was built upon and poor Celine has been doing Vegas for the past five years- in other words she has been outta sight and outta mind. Alicia on the other hand built her career solidly- on her talent- and though she wasn’t in the news every other week, she did keep her fans attention by doing two movies during her down time.

My three favorite actresses, Sanaa Lathan, Nia Long, and Gabrielle Union will all grace the December cover of Essence Magazine. The three sistas come together to talk about men, the lack of quality roles for Black women in Hollywood, and their dislike of gossip blogs- especially those run by Black women. Gabrielle Union, who has been taken to task by gossip blogs for supposedly partying too much, is especially ticked off about what is said about her and laments how painful it is to have your own community tearing you down. “And now because everyone is clamoring for celebrity tidbits, the bigger gossip sites and even mainstream entities are picking up on it. No fact-checking, no nothing. And in one week’s time, there were like five different dudes, a baby—I’m a homewrecker. In literally seven days. I can’t point the finger at the White media. They don’t care about us. Paparazzi are not staked out in front of any of our houses. They are not going through our garbage because they don’t care about us in that way. So when you hear crap about us, it is coming from our own community, which hurts.“.

Singer Ciara continues to criss-cross the country celebrating her twenty-second birthday with a five city tour. Last night Ciara touched down in New York City and kept the party going at the Runway. Besides shaking her groove thang, Ciara continued to field questions about her relationship with 50 Cent, who is rumored to have given the singer a fifteen karat “friendship” ring. Look for Ciara to wrap up her birthday tour in the next few days with a celebration in Miami and then two in the Bahamas. After that Ciara will hit the road for several touring dates throughout Europe, where she will be the opening act for Rihanna.

I know Kelly’s most recent album, Miss Kelly, did not sell well but I still expected her to be able to have a successful tour in small venues. Many artists have lackluster album sales but still tour and do quite well because their die-hard fan base always show up to support them. Such is not the case however with Kelly as her North American tour, which only had fifteen dates, is already in trouble and three shows have been canceled so far with rumors of the entire tour possibly in jeopardy. I have made my feelings about Kelly known in the past and I will reiterate them here once again. The lack of support from Destiny’s Childs fans for Kelly is really sad. Fans aren’t the only ones to blame though, radios refusal to even give Kelly’s singles a chance has also hampered her ability to build a successful solo career for herself. Sadly, I don’t see another album in Kelly’s future and think she needs to start looking outside of music to make a name for herself.
