While speaking to Essence Atkins on her role in ‘Love For Sale’, which comes out on DVD on Oct. 21st, she mentioned to Blackfilm.com that she’s set to a do an independent film for Warner Bros., a musical, called ‘Preacher’s Kid’. Also featured in the film are R&B singer Tank, Ella Joyce, Clifton Powell, and Gospel singer Kierra “Kiki” Sheard, and Letoya Luckett. The film will be written and directed by Stan Foster. Tired of being a Preacher’s daughter and longing to experience more of life, 20-something Angie King strikes out on her own for the very first time and joins a traveling gospel show. In this modern-day rendition of the fable of The Prodigal Son, she soon discovers life on the road is tough but fears going home with nothing to show for herself, or worse, to a father who no longer loves her.

The Russ Parr directed romantic comedy, Love For Sale, made it’s world premiere yesterday at the 12th Annual Black Film Festival. The movie stars Jackie Long (ATL) along with a host of beautiful brown sistas, including
Angell Conwell,
Essence Atkins, model
Melyssa Ford and singer
Mya. Both Melyssa and Mya will play Jackie’s love interest’s in the film. Melyssa plays the role of a financially well off older woman out to seduce Jackie’s pizza boy character and take him away from his childhood sweetheart (Mya).

Actress and newlywed, Terri J. Vaughn, recently finished production on her first film, a documentary, about the struggle to find quality roles as an African American woman in Hollywood. “Angels Can’t Help But Laugh” is the first of several films to be produced by Terri via her own production company, Nina Holiday Entertainment. In the film, Terri speaks with 25 Black actresses, including veterans like Sheryl Lee Ralph and Jasmine Guy, as well as up and comers like Meagan Good, Malinda Williams, and Essence Atkins.
