Rihanna is reminding me of Beyonce more and more everyday. Not only is her sense of fashion as impeccable as Beyonce’s is, but she stays on the grind like Beyonce as well, recognizing the importance of being seen and staying in the spotlight. You know what they say, outta sight, outta mind- and judging from the amount of candid photos and appearances Rihanna has made this week, it doesn’t look like she’s about to let the public forget about her any time soon. However, Rihanna is no publicity whore and has a very good reason for having such a high profile this week- and that is the Unicef concert she performed at last night with Akon. Like any good celebrity, Rihanna is using her fame (and vocal cords) to benefit those less fortunate than herself . Now, on the count of three, let’s all saw “Awwwww” (lol).

Following in the stiletto-heeled footsteps of Princess Beatrice and Peaches Geldof, Rihanna made her catwalk debut yesterday at the Dsquared fashion show in Milan. The 5′9 “Baha Beauty” sashayed down the runway to the tune of her own hit single, Umbrella, wearing a very revealing baby-doll style negilgee dress that left little to the imagination. The New York Chapter of The Recording Academy (Those people who pass out the Grammys) paid tribute to singer Alicia Keys, Bon Jovi, Donnie McClurkin and the Creators of West Side Story, last night at a dinner held at Cipriani’s. Alicia, who has never been known for her sense of fashion, showed up in an outfit that definitely made a statement. I loved the gloves and I can even stomach those gawd awful high waisted pants that have become so popular. However, I have to draw the line when it comes to those shoes. Somehow, once you combine those shoes with the white shirt, black pants and black and white gloves- you get the look of a mime- and I know that isn’t the look Alicia and her stylist were going for.

Jennifer Hudson was spotted in midtown Manhattan today shooting scenes from her upcoming movie, Sex and the City. As we reported here some weeks ago, Jen will be playing Carrie Bradshaw’s assistant (Louise) and judging from the pic to your right, her shoe game may be just as tight as Carrie’s. Patricia Field who is the stylist for this movie and the series, seems to be pushing the fashion envelope with Jennifer’s character and I like that. Many stylists would generally try to play Jennifer down due to her size but I think what Patricia is doing is far more bold and will ultimately help Jennifer’s character stand out more.

Model Naomi Campbell, who just turned 37 this year, walked the catwalk in Milan over the weekend and put her younger, skinnier rivals to shame. Sporting an emerald sequined swimsuit, Naomi took the catwalk to the tune of “It began In Africa”, by the Chemical Brothers, which kicked off the Miss Bikini Luxe 2008 Spring-Summer Collection. Naomi however, was not just in Milan to walk the runway and show off the fabulous figure that made her famous, she was also there in support of her charity, Fashion for Relief, which says it has already given away over a million dollars in support of Hurricane Katrina victims.

The MTV Video Music Awards are in progress as I write this post, but like many of you I could care less about who wins these statuettes, I watch to see what folks are wearing and this year’s VMA’s are as outrageous as those from years past. Lil Kim probably set the standard back on 1999 when she wore her infamous purple jumpsuit that had one boobie hanging out. I loved that outfit. I thought is was daring and let’s face it- she did look good. However, I cannot say the same for up and coming female rapper, Little Mama. Look to your right and you will see what I mean. This sista showed up in a baby outfit with a pacifier hanging from her mouth. Granted- it was a jewel encrusted pacifier (lol), but it was still gosh darn hideous.

Today’s Mega Picture Post will consist of images from Conde Nast’s Fashion Rocks show which went down last night in New York City. Black Female Star Power was in full effect as everyone from Tyra Banks to Mary J. Blige, who performed with Usher, came out to take part in the festivities. Fashion Rocks will air tonight on CBS so don’t forget to check out the performances, but for now, we have plenty of pics to share with you. To your right we have Mary and Usher, who left his new bride, to perform at the show. I have no idea what they sang but I am anxious to see their performance, as I am curious as to whether Usher can vocally hang with Mary.

Fashion Week officially kicked off Monday and since then there have been dozens of fashion and fashion related events attended by Brown Sistas. Sudanese model Alek Wek debuted her book, Alek: From Sudanese Refugee To International Supermodel at a glitzy party at Socialista. Among those in attendence were fellow Afrikan model Iman, designer Diane Von Furstenberg and model-mogul Kimora Lee Simmons. Ciara also showed up for the fashion festivities and was seen taking in the BCBG Max Azaria show along with Ashley Simpson. Actress Joy Bryant attended Glamour Magazine’s “Fashion Gives Back” benefit last night. While rapper Eve was seen at the Van Kleef & Arpels French inspired theme party at the Hammerstein Ballroom. Singer Janet Jackson was spotted over the weekend at the US Open, taking in Venus Williams match against Hungarian player Kira Nagy. Pics of Janet are extremely hard to come by these days as she rarely seems to make a public appearances. Reports still have Janet holed up in Miami working her on new album, which L.A Reid is rumored to be personally overseeing. There are also reports that Janet, along with Beyonce, will be performing at Ethiopia’s millennium bash which goes down on September 12th. Look for Beyonce to headline the affair while Janet is simply listed as a performer.
