Brown Sista

It seems Garcelle Beauvais is following in the footsteps of another Black actress, Stacey Dash, and is taking it all off for the pages Playboy Magazine. According to Playboy’s Cyber Club, Garcelle has posed for the August issue of the men’s magazine which hits news stands at the beginning of July. Garcelle is probably best known for her role as Fancy on the Jamie Foxx Show. The sista however started her career off as a model and I believe she has been on the cover of Essence magazine more times than any other model. Garcelle ruled the pages of many Black fashion magazines before she set her sights on Hollywood in the late eighties.

As you all know by now both Kelly Rowland and Beyonce are featured in Vibe’s June issue. Beyonce of course got the cover and a 10 page spread and Kelly got the shaft. No seriously, the good people at Vibe were nice enough to give Kelly a whole 2 pages to discuss herself, Beyonce, her album, Beyonce, and then Beyonce some more. Amazingly enough, Kelly’s name was never mentioned during the course of Beyonce’s interview. Most of you have probably read the interviews by now but high quality images of both of their photo shoots from this issue have not to my knowledge been posted online and so that is where we here at Brown Sista come in. The Bahamas is definitely the place to be this weekend as hordes of celebrities have converged on the islands to celebrate the grand opening of the Atlantis Phase III luxury resort. Stevie Wonder celebrated his birthday there while designer Kaimilla also used the occasion to show off her 2007 fashion line. However, the biggest event to take place so far was Janet Jackson’s mini concert Friday evening. Janet performed a medley of her hits and proved that she still has what it takes to pull in a big name crowd as Babyface, Ashanti, Usher and Tyra Banks were just a few of the celebs who attended her show.

Last night I got an interesting e-mail from someone concerning pics posted in the Brown Sista gallery. This person berated me for filling the gallery with pics of Black women with blue contacts. Now the term “filling the gallery” was a bit of a stretch as most of the pictures posted there are of sistas without contacts. Still, they were upset about two sistas in particular- Meagan Good and Blu Cantrell. Now I was aware that Blu Cantrell wore blue contacts, but not until closely looking at this pic and few others did I realize that Meagan Good wears them as well. Still, I saw no harm and told the e-mailer that I would not be removing them and considered their use of contacts a non issue.

Singer, actress, dancer and all around Diva Janet Jackson is on the cover of the spring 2007 issue of the new UK fashion and music magazine Sly & Chic. We first reported last year that Janet would be the mags first covergirl and the issue is now on stands- so do go out and pick that up if you are a UK fan. More Janet goodness is soon to follow as Tyler Perry posted a message via his website stating that his new movie “Why Did I Get Married” will most likely be released this year rather than the Spring of 2008 as first reported.

I thought Beyonce was still in Japan on tour but it appears the sista took some time off to fly back home and have a girls night out with her fellow BFFs Tyra Banks, , Kimora Lee Simmons and Jessica White. Of course Jay was there too but with such beauty taking up the front row of last night’s Knicks vs. Nets game, I doubt anyone noticed him. Check out the sistas having the time of their lives below, and notice how they seem to be doing everything but watching the game. They are talking, laughing, checking out each others hair, clothes and nails. Kimora is even giving Bey and Tyra a spritz of her new perfume. I guess that’s just what happens when you take a group of fashion divas out for a boring night of basketball. Sistas gotta find a way to pass the time somehow.

Naomi Campbell’s modeling career seems hotter than ever as the sista is once again gracing the cover of Vogue Magazine. April has Naomi striking a daring pose for the Russian edition of the super-mag and one look at the cover justifies why the fashion world just cannot let her go. This woman was born to model. Well you all knew it was going happen.The inevitable media blitz that will surround the release of Beyonce’s new CD is in full effect and songs and videos are being leaked every day.The newest video clips to be released are from the Get Me Bodied and Kitty Kat videos.Both are very stylish, very high fashion, and of course- very sexy.If Beyonce can do nothing else she can sell sex- and she sells it well.At this point I think the music and songs are irrelevant and it’s just about the image.Beyonce has an image that sells and thus I expect her new deluxe CD to do almost as well as the original.Click over to see for yourself and don’t forget to participate in our poll of the day.

I usually do my weekly picture roundup posts on Fridays but have decided to do it today instead because I have so many images saved up that I need to get off my computer.It has been an excellent week in Hollywood as sistas have been out and about at some very exclusive events.Starting things off we have Essence Atkins, Gabrielle Union and Sanaa Lathan who were all invited to the grand opening of Yacht Haven in the Virgin Islands.
