Mary J. Blige Lands Recurring Role on Season 3 of ‘How to Get Away with Murder’

Singer Mary J. Blige is continuing to load up her highlight reel, which come this fall will include an appearance on the highly anticipated third season of How to Get Away with Murder. According to published reports, the Queen of Hip-Hop Soul will have a recurring role which is expected to last throughout the first half of the season. Details are still sketchy, but word around the water cooler is Mary will play a relative of another character, who seeks out Annalise for help.

Viola Davis Wins Her Third SAG Award

On the heels of her win for Favorite Actress in a New TV Series at this year’s People’s Choice Awards, “How to Get Away with Murder” actress Viola Davis has added yet another trophy to her ever growing collection, a Screen Actor’s Guild statuette, for Best Actress in a TV Drama Series.

Davis’ emotional speech included a thank you to the show’s creators and writers, as well as another not so thinly veiled reference to the New York Times writer who didn’t think Davis “classically beautiful” enough to pull off the role of Analise Keating. “It starts from the top up,” Viola said. “So I’d like to thank Paul Lee, Shonda Rhimes, Betsy Beers, Bill D’Elia and Peter Norwalk for thinking that a sexualized, messy, mysterious woman could be played by a 49-year old dark-skinned African American woman who looks like me.”

‘How to Get Away with Murder’ Makes History

HOW TO GET AWAY WITH MURDER RECOTD BREAKING VIEWERS (140x140)

The ratings news for Viola Davis’ new ABC drama “How to Get Away with Murder” just keep getting better.

The show debuted last week with 14 million viewers, topping its lead-in “Scandal,” which had its highest rated debut with 11 million viewers.

Now that the dust has settled and 3-day DVR ratings have been tallied as well, “HTGAWM” has even more to smile about with news of a record breaking 6 million more viewers added on- for a total of 20 million viewers.
