Bollywood Comes Out To Support Beyonce

Beyonce Beyonce extended her Beyonce Experience tour to perform in countries she never had before and it appears to be a wise decision on her part. Though the Beyonce Experience got rave reviews in America, attendance was beyond poor, with many arenas only half full. However, since starting out on her extended tour Beyonce has performed to sold out crowds in Russia and India, with attendance being over 20,000 at each show. Last night’s show in India was not only sold out as well but brought out some of Bollywood’s biggest stars. American stars are huge in India but rarely tour there so Beyonce coming to the country was a treat for her fans and the country in general. Beyonce in return showed her appreciation by performing some of her songs in traditional Indian attire.

Beyonce Performs At Millennium Bash

Beyonce So remember I told you guys a few months back that Janet Jackson and Beyonce were scheduled to perform at Ethiopia’s millennium bash? Well Janet was obviously too busy basking in the glow of her box office success to show up, but Beyonce wasn’t. Beyonce not only showed up and performed but got a Queen’s welcome to boot. After a tour of the millennium stadium, which was built just for the occasion, Beyonce was brought to the King’s palace to meet Ethiopia’s President Girma Woldegiorgis. Word is Beyonce’s parents were also in attendance and got the royal treatment as well. Beyonce’s appearance before 5,000 Ethiopian fans serves as just one of her stops on her world tour which she extended in order to tour countries she has never toured before. After performing in Russia earlier this week and the millennium bash on Saturday, Beyonce next sets her sights on India, where she is scheduled to perform before a crowd of over ten thousand.

What Black Women Want

With word that Vibe Vixen would be no more after the Aug/Sept edition, folks are once again scratching their heads and wondering why so many magazines aimed at Black women seem to fail. Granted, few magazines are ever geared towards sisters, but in the last 3 years, 3 of the most visible to do so, have ceased publication: Vixen, Honey and Suede. Now in the past I have written about exactly why I believe Honey folded, but Suede came and went so fast that I never even saw it, while Vixen was an on again- off again project that just never really took off.

The Replacement Of Black Women

No Black Women Here Fellow blogger Clay Kane wrote an interesting piece on his site that got me to thinking about an article I started writing some months ago but eventually abandoned. Clay, in his article, wonders why there are so few Black women on the Billboard charts but quite a few White women who have what I like to call that Black Girl Flava? Now some time ago I predicted that the influx of White women into r&b music, with the help of Black male producers, would lead to the demise of Black women on the charts. And now that the chickens have essentially come home to roost, I think now is the perfect time to talk about why only Beyonce and Corrine Bailey Rae- who is biracial- are the only two so called Black women who have songs in the Hot 100.

The 7 Sistas of Summer

Meagan Good When it comes to films in general, there are never enough roles for women on the screen, let enough leading roles, or roles for African American women, but so far this year, we have seen a good share of prominent roles go to Black women. While Halle Berry is the only one to have a leading role in “Perfect Stranger”, some supporting roles were given with Meagan Good in “Stomp The Yard”, Thandie Newton in “Norbit”, Gabrielle Union in “Daddy’s Little Girls”, S. Epatha Merkerson in “Black Snake Moan”, Kimberly Elise in “Pride”, Jada Pinkett Smith in “Reign Over Me”, Nia Long in “Are We Done Yet?”, Tracie Thoms and Sydney Tamaii Poitier in “Grindhouse”, Vivica A. Fox in “The Salon”, and Victoria Rowell in “Home of the Brave”.

India.Arie Strikes Gold

I remembering hearing India Arie had gone gold this week and I was so happy for her.My sister told me to pick up the album a few days ago and I am so glad I did. This sista is truly gifted.Sadly, in a week where Cassie shows just how far R&B music has sunk, few blogs if any have reported this great news.I can only speculate as to why no talents like Cassie get all the attention while artists such as India, Jaguar Wright, Heather Headley, and so many others, get overlooked.

India Arie: Soul Searching

When India.Arie broke up with what she thought would be her lifetime love, she was saddened, angry, confused and hurt – and spent the next four years unleashing her emotions through song.

But those who pick up her latest album, Testimony, Vol. 1: Life & Relationship, won’t hear any of the bitterness she once harboured. Instead, in what has become India.Arie’s philosophy, she manages to find the positive, even in a devastating split. Instead of songs about a no-good man or falling into despair, India sings about the power of forgiveness, the appreciation of a past relationship and even learning to love being alone.
