I believe these photos were taken back in 2003 when Janet Jackson was rumored to be portraying Lena Horne in her biopic. These pics were suppose to showcase her looking very Lena like, but to me, I saw Diana Ross, not Lena Horne. The photo above in particular always looked very Diana, circa Lady Sings The Blues… or was it Mahogany? Well I can’t remember which one if was but I do know it was pre-big-hair Diana. Back in the 70’s Diana was rocking her own hair in her movies and I loved it. She seemed real. Same goes for these pics of Janet. It’s rare to see sistas showcasing their own lovely locks, but when they do, it is a sight to behold. And even though Janet may have a few extra tracks in there, this is still probably one of the most natural photo shoots I have ever seen of her.

The Beyonce Experience tour has been getting great reviews despite numerous reports that the concert halls are usually only half full. I remember hearing about Mariah Carey having the same problem with her last tour but am shocked to hear of Bey having such issues at this stage in her career. Performers such as Beyonce, Janet and Ciara tend to do very well on tour because they are known for their powerhouse performances which fans generally want to see live. Such is not the case with Beyonce which is why she is rumored to be extending her tour both here and overseas.

Singer Janet Jackson was spotted over the weekend at the US Open, taking in Venus Williams match against Hungarian player Kira Nagy. Pics of Janet are extremely hard to come by these days as she rarely seems to make a public appearances. Reports still have Janet holed up in Miami working her on new album, which L.A Reid is rumored to be personally overseeing. There are also reports that Janet, along with Beyonce, will be performing at Ethiopia’s millennium bash which goes down on September 12th. Look for Beyonce to headline the affair while Janet is simply listed as a performer.

Several new pics from a recently done photo shoot of singer Alicia Keys have been released to the public. I am always excited when sistas come out with new material because I am curious to see what new image/style they will convey with their new albums. Sadly, very few women think to totally change their image from record to record, as Janet Jackson and Madonna used to do back in their heyday. At best, sistas will get a new hairstyle and call it a day. This bores me. I want to be excited and Alicia is not exciting me. She looks the same here as she did with her last album. Yes, she is a lovely girl and a gifted singer/songwriter- but I still want more.

Singer Ciara took time off from headlining the Screamfest tour to promote Rocawear’s I Will Not Lose campaign at Macys Herald Square. I cannot even feign the slightest bit of interest in this story because I really think it’s boring at this point. What are we suppose to be buying, the sob stories in these commercials of the clothes? I want to see a hot fashion spread or something from Ciara, anything except what we are getting now. Rocawear has a beautiful young woman as the face of their women’s line and yet has no idea what to do with her.

Singer Keyshia Cole is gearing up for the release of her sophomore album, Just Like You, and photos from that upcoming project have now been released to the public. Keyshia keeps the blonde trend going as she did with her first album and basically looks exactly the same, sans a few orange streaks here and there. I honestly wish young singers of today would take a cue from Janet Jackson and switch up their looks with every album. This gives fans something to look forward to and if done properly, can help establish you as a fashion icon.

Janet Jackson’s new movie, Why Did I Get Married?, is due to hit theaters October 12th and Yahoo.com has the first look at what both Janet and Tyler Perry fans can expect from their joint venture. Why Did I Get Married is the big screen adaptation of Perry’s stage play about the trials of marriage, and what happens to one family when a sexy young vixen arrives on the scene. The movie also stars Dreamgirls actress, Sharon Leal, singer Jill Scott and Girlfriends co-star, Keesha Sharp.
