Clip From Janet’s New Movie

Janet Jackson Singer Janet Jackson and Tyler Perry appeared on Extra TV in a taped interview they gave to the channel on the set of their new movie “Why Did I Get Married?”. The interview was done back in May and Tyler talks about Janet’s un-diva like behavior on the set and why he hopes to work with her again in the future. He also shares an exclusive clip of Janet from the movie. I don’t know the actual breakdown of the scene but Janet plays the role of Diane and is seen breaking up a fight between friends. Click over to the next page to view the clip and maybe some Tyler Perry fans can fill us in on some of the details if they have seen this particular play.

Live BET Awards Chat Fest

Ok, somebody obviously done told us wrong because Beyonce and Jay Z did not open the BET Awards as previously thought. Instead BET gave Jennifer Holiday the gift of a lifetime by allowing her to duet with J. Hudson on the Dreamgirls anthem, And I’m Telling You. I must say it was a big surprise to see Jennifer Holiday take the stage but it was a pleasant surprise nonetheless. I think both Jennifer’s did an excellent job, if not a bit much at the end. Sill, this year’s show is an upgrade from last year’s and keep getting better.

So what do you guys think so far… ?

Janet Jackson Album News

Janet Jackson Janet fans have speculated for months now that Janet would leave Virgin Records for Island Def Jam and that appears to be exactly what is happening. 20 Y.O was Janet’s last album under contract with Virgin and now reports are circulating that L.A. Reid, President of IDJ, is down in Miami personally overseeing the new album which is rumored to have production from long time collaborators Jimmy Jam and Terry Lewis, as well as Pharell and Ne-Yo. No word yet whether Jermaine Dupri, Janet’s boyfriend, will be contributing tracks to the new project.

New Tracks From Ashanti?

Ashanti While browsing Janet Jackson’s official forum I came across what was said to be two new tracks from Ashanti’s upcoming album. All the members were raving about the singles and as I listened to them my sentiments were pretty much the same. The songs, if truly hers, are a departure from what you would expect from Ashanti as the lyrics are extremely mature, with not even a hint of her trademark Murder Inc. sound. However, the singing on both these tracks are so good that I wondered if it was truly Ashanti. The first track, More Than A Melody, sounds like something Diane Warren would have written for Whitney Houston back in the day. It has a very Greatest Love Of All feel and the vocals are just extraordinary.

The Replacement Of Black Women

No Black Women Here Fellow blogger Clay Kane wrote an interesting piece on his site that got me to thinking about an article I started writing some months ago but eventually abandoned. Clay, in his article, wonders why there are so few Black women on the Billboard charts but quite a few White women who have what I like to call that Black Girl Flava? Now some time ago I predicted that the influx of White women into r&b music, with the help of Black male producers, would lead to the demise of Black women on the charts. And now that the chickens have essentially come home to roost, I think now is the perfect time to talk about why only Beyonce and Corrine Bailey Rae- who is biracial- are the only two so called Black women who have songs in the Hot 100.

Janet Flaunts Her Figure- Again

Janet Jackson A year after Janet Jackson graced the cover of US magazine to talk about her weight loss, the singer is back on the cover again discussing how she has maintained her svelte 120 pound figure. Yes I know that sounds really interesting, but Janet has been talking about her weight for years and honestly it isn’t interesting to me anymore. I love me some Janet but I get it already. What I want is news of a new single, a new album- a new something. The music scene is changing drastically day by day and Janet cannot continue to stand on the sidelines taking cute photos and talking about things she has talked about a million times before. Janet needs to get back in the studio with Jimmy and Terry and come back out with another “Janet” or Rhythm Nation”.

Brown Sista’s Hot 100

Maxim So as they do every year, Maxim magazine has released their list of the 100 hottest women in Hollywood. Of this 100 exactly 6 of them are Black or at least part Black. Ciara came in at #72 followed by Gabrielle Union at #67, Jessica White at #60, Halle Berry at #55, Beyonce at #13 and Rihanna made the top ten by coming in at #8. Now because only 6 of the women were of color, some people have started to complain. We here at Brown Sista however aren’t the least bit concerned with the lack of color on this list because hey- look at the source. Plus, can you really take a magazine seriously that thinks Lindsay Lohan is prettier than any of the above women, or even Jessica Alba who came in at #2 ?
