Brown Sista

You have got to be over twenty-five to remember this sista. Adina Howard burst onto the R n’ B scene in the mid nineties as a sexed up version of Janet Jackson. Complete with hot pants and the sexiest group of female back up dancers you have ever scene, Adina dominated the summer on 95′ with hits like My Up And Down and Freak Like Me. Adina’s first album Do You Wanna Ride was a certified hit and has sold 1.3 million copies to date. Unfortunately, like a lot of nineties acts, (En Vogue, Jade, Monifah) Adina’s career was short lived. Her second album, Welcome To Fantasy Island was shelved by her record label after they decided it contained no radio friendly singles. Undeterred, Adina has continued to record music and even collaborated with Jamie Foxx on his first CD.

Don’t get mad at me. I just report the news, I don’t make it up. But unfortunately since being released a little over a month ago, Kelly’s Rowland’s first single (( Like This)) from her forthcoming album (( Miss Kelly)) , is languishing at a disappointing #81 on the Hot 100 singles chart ((Moving up from #89 last week)) . To make matters worse BET has only played the video 14 times while MTV and VH-1 haven’t played the video at all. I would like to say that I am surprised at how poorly the single is doing but I am not.

Singer, actress, dancer and all around Diva Janet Jackson is on the cover of the spring 2007 issue of the new UK fashion and music magazine Sly & Chic. We first reported last year that Janet would be the mags first covergirl and the issue is now on stands- so do go out and pick that up if you are a UK fan. More Janet goodness is soon to follow as Tyler Perry posted a message via his website stating that his new movie “Why Did I Get Married” will most likely be released this year rather than the Spring of 2008 as first reported.

For years Hits Daily Double has been a reliable source if you want to find out who will have the number one album in the country before Soundscan actually makes it official. Nothing is set in stone, but oftentimes based on first day sales HDD can predict whose album will be number one. I personally lost all faith in them when they reported Janet Jackson’s 20 Y.0 would be #1 only to eventually have Ludacris drop his album price to $5 and snatch the coveted spot away. I doubt Beyonce’s camp will make such a daring price drop to reach pole position but you never know. Album sales for this week are particularly low as HDD reports the fight for number one is between Timbaland and Tim McGraw but both are only expected to sell around 140K. While they report Beyonce’s new opus is expected to sale around 100-110K in it’s first week.

A new image of Janet Jackson has been making the rounds of her fansites but as of yet no one seems to know where it came from or what it is for.Some speculate it’s a promo shot for her upcoming fall tour.While others think it may be the cover shot used for Sly & Chic- a British Magazine that was supppose to have Janet on the cover back in February.Whatever the case may be, it is good to see something new from Janet as the sista has been very quiet lately.Her last outing was at the Soul Train Awards but she kept a low profile backstage.A few weeks ago news did surface that she would be starring in Tyler Perry’s new movie but that also brought speculation that her tour would be cancelled.

Aren’t you all just sick of this heffa already? No you can’t possibly be. Articles posted about this chick are always the most replied to and I expect this one to be no different. Beyonce releasing a new album also means Beyonce will be releasing new pics. Below we have two new images which are possible promo shots for the B’day Deluxe Edition. I cannot say for certain because just like the image of Janet below, the folks who posted these have no idea where they came from or what they will be used for. I do however think it’s safe to say they are fairly new. As always Beyonce’s stylist knows just what to put on this sista as this dress is hugging Miss Bey in all the right places.

I was trying not to post any information from the upcoming issue of Vibe Vixen that features Janet Jackson on the cover until I at least had the digital copy of the magazine for myself.It seems however that will not be happening so I am finally posting the entire interview here as well as the picture used for the cover shot which you can see to your left.In this interview Janet talks about the usual- Michael’s former nose, her former nose and her obvious love for Jermaine Dupri.She also touches on her relationship with his 9 year old daughter and her own future plans for motherhood.As usual, Janet does not give out too much information thus making this interview as uneventful as the rest she did for the 20 Y.0 album.The only good thing that came from this article was confirmation that Janet would indeed be going on tour later on this year.
