Jennifer Hudson and Cynthia Enrivo Record Title Track to The Color Purple Broadway Production

the color purpleWhen The Color Purple makes its return to Broadway this fall, it will be doing so with an amazing array of talent.

Along with Jennifer Hudson, who will play the role of Shug Avery, we have Cynthia Enrivo, who wowed fans in the London production as Celie, and Danielle Brooks (Orange is the New Black) who will be taking on the role of Sofia.

Jennifer and Cynthia recently recorded a duet together of the play’s title track, which will be featured in the show when it begins previews on November 10, and then opens live at the Bernard B. Jacobs Theatre on December 10.

Jenner Hudson Heads to Broadway


Singer Jennifer Hudson is heading to Broadway, taking on the role of Shug Avery in the Oprah Winfrey produced revival of The Color Purple.

The John Doyle-helmed production will head to the Great White Way later this fall after having debuted at London’s Chocolate Factor back in 2013.

The original Broadway production starred Brandon Victor Dixon, Renee Elise and LaChanz, who won a Tony for her portrayal of Celie. Oprah Winfrey was also a part of that production team.

Jennifer Hudson Rocks the Today Show


Singer Jennifer Hudson took to the Today Show earlier today to perform a medley of songs off of her upcoming third solo album.

The 32-year old Academy Award winner is hot on the promo trail, gearing up for the release of “JHUD,” the follow-up to 2011’s Gold-certified “I Remember Me.”

In a recent interview Jennifer called “JHUD,” a departure from her previous albums, noting its more urban sound and lack of traditional ballads she has become known for.

Shortly after unveiling her new R. Kelly assisted single “It’s Your World,” at the BET Awards, singer Jennifer Hudson, in an interview with D.C.’s WPGC, also revealed the title of her upcoming third solo CD.

“JHUD,” the singer’s longtime online moniker given to her by fans, will serve as the project’s title; and according to Jen, lots of thought actually went into the process of naming the album.

Jennifer Hudson’s Soul Train Performance


Singer Jennifer Hudson gave her first live performance of her new single “I Can’t Describe” earlier tonight on the “Soul Train Awards.”

Jennifer opened the show and was eventually joined by fellow R&B divas Evelyn Champagne and Chaka Khan to perform a spirited version of their classics “I’m In Love,” and “Do What You Feel.”

Because the show was taped last month, Jennifer was home watching the telecast with the rest of us. On her performance she said: “I am honored to have shared the stage with two of my idols. Let’s do it again real soon.”
