Kelis Cooks Up a Little Something Extra for Fans
With an album titled “Food” and songs like “Biscuits n’ Gravy,” is it any wonder Kelis has decided to release her very own cookbook?
The soulful singer has been flexing her culinary muscle for a while now, having graduated from Le Cordon Bleu in 2008 with the certified title of saucier.
Since then, Kelis has hosted her own show on the Cooking Channel (Saucy & Sweet), released her own line of sauces (Bounty & Full), and even opened her own food truck to cook for attendees at the SXSW Music Festival.
Over the weekend Kelis premiered the video for Brave, the 4th single from her Flesh Tone album. The singer once again chose to work with Rankin, who directed the videos for her previous singles “Acapella”, “Scream” and “4th of July (Fireworks).”
The video for Kelis’ new single “Scream” premiered yesterday via UK music station The Box. Like several other tracks from the singer’s “Flesh Tone” album, Scream was produced by French DJ David Guetta and features his trademark electro-pop sound.
“Flesh Tone” continues to do respectable numbers overseas, while the U.S. just refuses to hop on board of what truly is an amazing dance album.
“4th of July (Fireworks)” is set to be the second single off of Kelis’ upcoming “Flesh Tone” album. The single was released to radio earlier this week and will be made available for digital download on July 8th. The track was produced by DJ Ammo and comes on the heels of the singer’s first single “Acapella” going #1 Billboard Magazine’s Dance/Club Play Chart.
The video for “4th” has already been shot and was co-directed by Kelis with Rankin and Nicole Ehrlich. Shot in the desert outside of Los Angeles, the singer describes it as a “spectacular array of visual stimulation” that find her “dynamically playing upon the four elements of the universe.”
Look for Flesh Tone to be released by will.i.am Music Group/Interscope Records on July 6th.
Amid the ongoing drama surrounding her divorce from Nas, Kelis will take to the road this summer to promote her upcoming “Flesh Tone” album. The singer took to Twitter to announce her joint “All Hearts” tour with fellow pop singer Robyn. The idea apparently came to the two singers during a playful back and forth convo that started with Robyn throwing a few words Kelis’ way: Hey mama, I’m bored. U feel like doing something?”, to which Kelis replied, “Love to. Thinking it’d be fun 2 hit the road together? I’ll bring the lasers, confetti. Let’s do it!” Robyn added, “That’s what I’m thinking. I got my strobes ready & some new dancing shoes as well. We could do this! So what are we calling this madness? My heart’s tellin me u got an idea?” Kelis ‘ tweeted back: “Lets call it All Hearts. What do you think?”
Kelis’ new album will hit stores in July, while Robyn’s upcoming Body Tal Pt. 1 will be released in June.
Kelis’ video for her #1 dance track “Acapella” isn’t due to air in it’s entirety until Monday. However, you can get a quick glimpse of what the singer has in store for us right now. Directed by photographer/designer Rodrigo Otazu, the video is everything you would expect from an artist as eclectic as Kelis.
Check it out below and for a longer clip- you can hit up the singer’s official IAMKELIS website.
New mommy Kelis has won Round 1 in her court battle with soon to be ex-husband, rapper Nas. Earlier today, Los Angeles County Superior Court Judge, Louis Meisinger, awarded the singer $39,498 per month in child support; an amount that is substantially more than the $20,000 she was originally seeking and a helluva lot more than the one time payment of $20,000 Nas’ lawyer had originally proposed. To add insult to injury, the Judge also ordered Nas to fork over another $45,000 to pay for Kelis’ attorney fees.
As many of you know, the singer went into labor earlier this week and delivered a healthy baby boy, named Knight Jones, on Wednesday evening. As for todays events, Kelis’ rep would only say: “Kelis is grateful to have given birth to a healthy baby boy and her focus is on getting acquainted with him and enjoying her role as a new mom.”
I’m sure you have heard about the recent splitting of Kelis and Nas. Although this saddens me to see another Black couple ending their life together, another important issue has come to my attention through this. Apparently, Kelis wants Nas to take care of their unborn child and HER for the rest of her life. I can understand her wanting him to care for their child but it gets deeper than that and that is when I grow concerned. See the following statement:
TMZ reports, Kelis is asking the judge to order Nas to pay spousal support, child support, all pregnancy-related expenses, and one-half of all medical expenses after the child is born. She also wants $3,500 for the baby nurse after the child’s birth, and $20,000 for strollers, cribs and other baby supplies. Kelis says she’s entitled to maintain the lifestyle to which she became accustomed during their marriage — they have five homes, fly first class, go to fancy restaurants, and on and on. Most interesting — “There were many expensive pieces [of jewelry] such as a princess-cut diamond tennis bracelet that was recently appraised for $190,000. My engagement ring is an approximately nine-carat cushion-cut diamond solitaire. I have numerous watches…such as Cartier, Rolex, Frank Muller and Chopard“My survival is based on [Nas’] will at this time. If he does not want to pay for an expense, it does not get paid.” Continue Reading
Very sad news to report this morning. Kelis and Nas, who are pregnant and expecting their first child together, have decided to call it quits. The couple have been married for only four years and made headlines when they exchanged vows during a very eclectic wedding ceremony in Atlanta, Georgia. Kelis filed the petition for divorce and like most celebrity couples, cited irreconcilable differences as the reason for the split. Keli’s petition also asks for spousal support and joint custody of their unborn child.
Singer Kelis and rapper Lil Kim both took to the stage today, on day two of the Way Out West Music Festival. Neither Kim nor Kelis are signed to record labels at the moment or have music to promote, but both ladies have enough of a following, especially overseas, to have landed prime spots on the bill. Gothenburg, Sweeden was the place of this years event and Kelis especially has a huge European fan base. But the Swedes love their rap as well and that’s where Lil Kim comes in.
