Singer Kelis and rapper Lil Kim both took to the stage today, on day two of the Way Out West Music Festival. Neither Kim nor Kelis are signed to record labels at the moment or have music to promote, but both ladies have enough of a following, especially overseas, to have landed prime spots on the bill. Gothenburg, Sweeden was the place of this years event and Kelis especially has a huge European fan base. But the Swedes love their rap as well and that’s where Lil Kim comes in.

A bar worker at a popular Times Squares karaoke club was arrested Thursday after confessing to beating a woman to death with a pipe on the club’s roof during an argument, police said. Syed Rahman, 24, admitted he smashed Ingrid Rivera over the head at about 2:45 a.m. Monday during a birthday party for rapper Lil’ Kim that the victim had paid to attend, Police Commissioner Raymond Kelly said at a news conference. Her body was discovered Wednesday afternoon. It was unclear what Rahman and Rivera, who had met for the first time inside Spotlight Live club that night, were arguing about. But a friend of Rivera pointed police to Rahman by telling them she had fought off his sexual advances on the roof shortly before the slaying, Kelly said.

As I type this the 2008 BET Awards are in full effect and so is the Black female star power. As expected all of Black Hollywood is in the house tonight and that includes singers Keyshia Cole and Rihanna, who are both due to perform, as well Beyonce’s lil sis Solange, who celebrated her 22nd birthday last night.

Rapper Lil Kim recently parted ways with her long time record label, Atlanta Records, and is now gearing up to release her first independent album, Ms G.O.A.T, this Tuesday, June 3rd. Kim parted ways with her record label earlier this year saying she wanted creative control and that is apparently what she got. Her new CD features collaborations with the usual suspects, 50 Cent, Missy Elliott, Keyshia Cole, and of all people, fallen pop princess Britney Spears. Respirator, a leaked track from the new CD, is presently making it’s way across the net but in my opinion is not the type of the song that will get Lil Kim’s musical career back on track and to my knowledge is not even officially considered the first single. How do you release a new album with no official single or video? Oh well, Kim always has a potential acting career and boot line to fall back on.

New Line Cinema’s highly anticipated new movie “Sex and the City” finally held their New York preimiere this evening and a bevy of beautiful Brown Sistas were there to show their support. Dreamgirls actress Jennifer Hudson, who also co-stars in the film, was on hand as were singers Mary J. Blige, Michelle Williams, and rapper Lil Kim.

Rapper Lil Kim recently did a photo shoot with famed photographer and video director David Lachapelle. In a newly released photo from that shoot Kim is shown holding a baby with a painted face, while surrounded by naked men, cocaine, needles, and all that while supposedly dressed as the Virgin Mary. No one knows yet what this photo will be used for, but what we do know is that like most of Lil Kim’s photo shoots- people will be talking about them for years to come. Personally, it takes a lot to offend me and Kim’s photo sure doesn’t past the test. Photography is like art and each artist expresses themselves differently. Plus David Lachapelle is known for taking photos that create controversy and thus up his value in Hollywood. He and Lil Kim have done this before and will surely do do it again in the future.

Geffen Records recording artist, hit-making singer/songwriter, reality TV show star, and Grammy-nominated force, Keyshia Cole, continues to deliver the numbers with “I Remember,” her third consecutive single from her platinum-plus selling sophomore CD, Just Like You. The record currently rests atop Billboard’s “Hot R&B/Hip Hop” chart, an accomplishment that Keyshia’s record has seen for four consecutive weeks. Her first two singles “Shoulda Let You Go,” featuring Missy and Lil’ Kim and “Let It Go” also share the “#1″ honor. The platinum-plus selling Just Like You (Keyshia’s 2nd consecutive platinum album) is selling an average of 30,000 copies a week making her the top-seller for Universal Music Group as a whole.
