Lupita Nyong’o in Talks to Star in Disney Film


According to published reports, actress Lupita Nyong’o is in talks to star in the upcoming Disney film “Queen of Katwe.” The film is based on the life of female Ugandan chess prodigy Phiona Mutesi, who with the help of her coach Robert Katende, went on to compete in the 39th Annual World Chess Olympiad back in 2010.

Lupita, still basking the awesome glow of her gig as Lancôme spokesmodel, as well as a co-starring role in the upcoming Star Wars film, is slated to play Phiona’s mother Harriett Mutesi, while “Selma” star David Oyelowo, also in talks to star in the film, would take on the role of Katende.

The Mexico City native by way of Kenya has had quite an impressive year, taking home an Oscar for her first film “12 Years a Slave,” landing a cosmetics contract with Lancôme, scoring her first Vogue cover, being named People magazine’s Most Beautiful and landing roles in two new films, including the highly anticipated “Star Wars: Episode VII.”

Lupita Nyong’o Covers Vogue


Academy Award-winning actress Lupita Nyong’o has scored her first American Vogue cover.

Lupita graces the July edition, dubbed their “Women to Watch” issue, wearing a colorful ensemble by fashion house Miu Miu.

Nyong’o, who will next be seen in the seventh edition of the Star Wars trilogy, was lensed by photographer Mikael Jansson last month in the beautiful city of Marrakesh.

Lupita Nyong’o Named People’s Most Beautiful Star of 2014


Oscar winning actress Lupita Nyong’o has been named People magazine’s most beautiful person of 2014.

Lupita will grace the cover when it hits newsstands this week and in doing so joins the likes of Beyonce, who was named most beautiful in 2012 and Halle Berry, who was named most beautiful in 2003.

Other Brown Sistas making the cut on this year’s 50 Most Beautiful list include, Halle and Beyonce again, as well as first-timer Nicole Beharie and Kerry Washington and Gabrielle Union, who both made the list last year as well.

The 31-year old Kenyan (by way of Mexico) beauty broke the news just moments ago, saying “I am truly honored to join Maison Lancôme, a brand with such a prestigious history that I have always loved. Lupita Nyong’o Wins Oscar Gold


Lupita Nyong’o capped off a whirlwind award season by taking home the Academy Award for “Best Supporting Actress” at last night’s Oscar ceremony.

The “12 Years a Slave” actress honored the character (Patsey) that put her on stage, saying “It doesn’t escape me for one moment that so much joy in my life is due to so much pain in someone else’s.”

Lupita becomes the 14th black actor to win an Academy Award in the show’s 86-year history and the 7th black actress overall to take home the statuette.
