As we reported some weeks ago, Kelly Rowland and rapper Nelly have shot the video for their new single “Gone,” which appears on the rapper’s 2010 release Nelly “5.0.” The track is the follow up to the pair’s 2002 smash single “Dilemma,” which earned the duo a Grammy for “Best Rap/Sung Collaboration.”
Images from the shoot, which took place earlier this month in Cancun, Mexico, were released by Kelly earlier this week, and show the couple getting quite cozy with each other. Reportedly friends as well as longtime collaborators, Nelly and Kelly have always had great chemistry with each other, which comes off beautifully on camera.
Check out images from the set below and look for “Gone” to premiere via VEVO early next month.
Singer Ashanti is the latest Brown Sista to cover Page Six Magazine, a weekly feature found in the Sunday edition of The New York Post Newspaper. As expected, the sista covered the basics; her latest CD, what she thinks of todays top female artists, and most curiously, her wedding plans to Nelly, who the magazine refers to as the father of her two children: “With 14 hits, 65 awards and finally a comeback after a long career shutout, the singer shares that what she really wants is a husband and kids to go home to. Discovered at age 14 by Sean “Diddy” Combs, it took her three failed record deals before landing with Murder, Inc. She proved her mettle by becoming the first female artist to have three singles (“Foolish,” “Always on Time,” and “What’s Luv”) in the top 10 of the Billboard Hot 100 at the same time, a feat previously accomplished only by The Beatles.
Singer Ashanti and her significant other of the past five years, Nelly, have added their names to the long list of entertainers who have mixed business with pleasure. Think: Beyonce and Jay-Z, Sonny and Cher- Peaches and Herb. The list goes on and on and now that list includes this couple as they were seen recently working on a video together. “Body On Me” is a track slated to appear on Nelly’s upcoming CD and features not only the lady in his life, Ashanti, but singer, songwriter, producer, Akon as well. Body On Me is a pretty nice track and may just be the added boost Ashanti needs. Though her CD got rave review from critics, fans and non fans alike, the disc has moved less than 300,000 copies since it was released five weeks ago and presently sits at #49 on the Billboard 200 Albums chart.
Singer Ciara recently took time off from recording her new album “Fantasy Ride” to tape the video for Nelly’s new single Steppin’ On My J’s, of which Ciara appears on. To your right are a few pics from the taping of the video and as you can see, there really isn’t much to see or talk about except Ciara’s step backward into the big blonde wig phase which I thought was on it’s way out. Steppin’ On My Js is not a very good song but I doubt it was written to be appealing to a GAW like myself anyway. However, Ciara appearing on the single will peak the interest of sistas and give her fans something to enjoy until her new opus drops later on this year.
Unlike Beyonce and Jay Z, newlyweds Mariah Carey and Nick Cannon have no plans to play cat and mouse games with the media. Just days after getting married in the Bahamas, the couple made their first public appearance together at Time Magazine’s 100 Most Influential People In The World party- held last night in New York City. Mariah did double duty as not only an honoree
, but also as the night’s entertainment. Here she is pictured above looking happy with her new hubby and Time Warner CEO Richard Parsons.
It’s Tuesday, so you guys know what that means- it’s time for this week’s edition of Talk To Me Tuesday. I thought today we could use Nelly and his recent comments about Essence Magazine and Halle Berry as our focus. For those of you outta the loop, Nelly recently told SOHH that he would love to be on the cover of Essence but knew he would never get the chance because of his highly sexual and some say exploitive Tip Drill video (I still haven’t seen it). However, he says Essence clearly has a double standard as it has put actress Halle Berry on the cover several times since her controversial role in Monster’s Ball. As you all surely know, Halle had a very graphic sex scene (I cannot watch that scene all the way through) with actor Billy Bob Thorton in MB, but won an Academy Award for the role anyway.
