Since the season finale of the Showtime hit series ‘Soul Food’ two years ago, the actress has kept a relatively low-profile.

Now she’s in a whirlwind of activity — and employment– with a starring role on NBC’s hit summer drama series ‘Windfall’ and a role in OutKast’s long-awaited movie musical ‘Idlewild.’

“You know what, that seems to be the way my life works; it’s all or nothing,” the Plainfield, N.J. native told Black Voices — from the Atlanta set of her latest job: Tyler Perry’s third theatrical project, ‘Daddy’s Little Girl.’ “You know how it is, when it rains it pours or it doesn’t rain and it’s a drought,” she quipped.

At New York City’s trendy Coffee Shop restaurant—where model-esque servers sashay between tables and smartly-attired diners sip midday cocktails—Yaya DaCosta is in control.

“I don’t want to focus too much on the show,” begins the young model/ actress, just minutes after slipping her slight 5′ 8″ frame into a booth and ordering a caipirinha, a drink she fell in love with when she studied abroad in Brazil. “I’m grateful for it,” she continues carefully, “but it’s just that it happened over a year ago and there’s other stuff going on.”

Before “Survivor” was saturating radios and Jay-Z had the “hottest chick in the game wearing his chain,” Destiny’s Child was four young, beautiful girls by the names of Beyonce, Kelly, Letoya and LeTavia. Singles like “No, No, No Pt. 2” and “Bills, Bills, Bills” were topping the charts with their alluring beats and catchy hooks, while adepty-harmonized vocals from the quartet pushed earned them multi-platinum record sales and a stronghold as one of the premier female groups of the era. But behind the scenes, the group wasn’t so melodious—Letoya and Latavia had disagreements with manager Matthew Knowles, and the two were eventually ousted from the group.
