The 35th Annual American Music Awards ceremony was held last night and it was quite a huge evening for Brown Sistas. Both Alicia Keys and Rihanna walked away with multiple statuetts, two a piece and gave blockbuster performances to boot. Alicia gave an amazing performance of her single, Superwoman, with raptress Queen Latifah and opera singer Kathleen Battle. Rihanna also gave a spectacular performance of her single Rehab and did so while wearing the most amazing bad ass biker babe outfit I have ever seen- complete with jewel encrusted eye-patch. Next up was Sasha Fierce who was not about to be left out of all the hoopla. Though Beyonce was not up for any awards, she did perform her soon to be #1 hit, Single Ladies and totally brought the crowd to their feet.

Soul diva Alicia Keys hosted her annual Black Ball event Thursday night at the Hammerstein Ballroom in New York City. This is the fifth year Alicia has acted as hostess for the event, which raises money for the AIDS organization, Keep A Child Alive. When asked what her secret was for getting celebrities to show up for her event every year, Alicia replied- “I bat my eyes and wink, we have a nice conversation and then they just show up.” So far Alicia’s wink has raised over 10 million dollars for her cause and with people like Tyra Banks and Queen Latifah showing up for this years festivities- she is bound to raise even more.

Singers Jennifer Hudson, Queen Latifah and Alicia Keys, were all spotted walking the red carpet at the Toronto International Film Festival. The three Brown Sistas were on hand for the premiere of their new movie, The Secret Life of Bees. Gina Prince Bythewood, the brilliant sista behind the movie Love & Basketball, directed this film and look for it to hit movie screens across America on October 17th. Singer Jennifer Hudson is also gearing up for a promotional blitz as her long awaited debut album will finally be released on September 30th. Look for Jennifer to make appearances in the coming weeks on the Today Show, Live with Regis & Kelly, and David Letterman.

Oscar-winner Jennifer Hudson and Oscar-nominees Queen Latifah and Sophie Okonedo have been signed to star in Fox Searchlight’s big screen adaptation of Sue Monk Kidd’s best-selling 2003 novel “The Secret Life of Bees.” Jennifer will play the friend of the film’s central character, Lily Owens, a 14-year-old girl who escapes her lonely life and troubled relationship with her father by running away with her caregiver and only friend to a South Carolina town where she is taken in by a trio of bee-keeping sisters. The film is set in South Carolina in 1964. Latifah and Okonedo will play two of the sisters, while singer-actress Alicia Keys is in talks to play the third. Variety reports Dakota Fanning is in talks to star as the 14-year-old girl.
