Shanice Preps New Reality Show

R&B singer Shanice is the latest 90’s diva planning to make a return to the music scene this year.

In a recent interview, Shanice, who released her last album, Every Woman Dreams in 2006, says she is back in the studio with producer B Slade, and that “definitely before the year is out” she will be releasing a new single.

So why release music now, after an almost seven year hiatus? Well, according to Shanice, she and husband Flex have a reality show in the works, which she plans to use to promote her new projects.

“I know I’ve been talking about coming back for the longest,” Shanice told Urban Bridges. Like every year I’m like okay, it’s going to be this year. But this is the first time that I’ve really felt like it because the show is coming as well and I can market myself on my show.”

Now an independent artist with no label support, Shanice says she hasn’t been this excited in years, and is thankful to have to have a show to help her connect with fans on a personal and professional level.

As for the show, Shanice she’s sworn to secrecy, but that fans should not expect any drama, as it will be a “family show,” where the public will get to see her family, and the various projects she and Flex work on together.

“You’ll see the family as a whole. There’s a lot I want to share but I don’t because I want people to be surprised when they see it. It’s pretty funny, because we’re not sugar coating anything. It’s going to make you tear up and it’s going to make you laugh. My house is funny, like everybody in my house keeps me laughing.”

LaTavia Roberson Preps Reality Show

Former Destiny’s Child member LaTavia Roberson is looking to return to the spotlight via her very own self-produced reality show.

LaTavia, who just became a new mommy last month, announced plans to venture into reality TV over the summer, but just recently decided to share details about the project.

According to LaTavia, “The premise is me and a couple of my friends that have been in girl groups before. We’re on this show together and it’s about our lives and us making our climb back to where we need to be in our lives.”

And just in case you’re thinking this premise sounds awfully similar to TV One’s R&B Divas- think again. According to LaTavia, though she is a fan of ‘Divas,’ she and her cast mates have known each other for years and will be “looking to spread love, not drama.”

LOL. Don’t they all say that in the beginning.

Anyway, LaTavia did not divulge who her cast mates will be, but the online rumor mill says Cassandra Lucas of Changing Faces and Shireen Crutchfield of The Good Girl have signed on.

Don’t recognize those names? That’s ok. If you grew up on 90’s music you’ll definitely recognize their songs.

WEtv Greenlights SWV Reality Show

At the Essence Music Festival today, the Grammy nominated R&B trio SWV (Sisters With Voices) announced from the main stage that WE tv is profiling their make-it-or-break-it comeback through a new unscripted series. “SWV – Sisters With Voices” will join WE tv’s successful slate of unscripted programming in early 2014. The network has ordered six, one-hour episodes from Entertainment One Television.

“The journey of SWV is the kind of real and personal comeback story our viewers love to see,” said Lauren Gellert, WE tv’s senior vice president of original production and development. “These dynamic women experienced enormous success together, then it all fell apart. United again, the stakes are higher than ever, and so – at times – is the drama and tension. We can’t wait to present this fresh, new series to WE tv viewers.”

After a string of hit songs in the 1990s, the ladies of SWV – Cheryl “Coko” Clemons, Leanne “Lelee” Lyons and Tamara “Taj” Johnson – were on top of the music world. Then, at the height of their success, in-fighting and drama lead to their demise. After a 15-year separation the trio reunited in an attempt to recapture their fame at the top of the music charts. The series will follow SWV as they write new music, tour and finally face the issues that ended their friendship and their careers once before.

“Sisters With Voices” is produced for WE tv by Entertainment One Television, executive produced by Tara Long, John Morayniss, Jeff Hervert, Howie Miller and Jennifer Long. Kate Farrell serves as the executive producer for WE tv.

Mary Mary Gets Real on WEtv

WEtv announced plans earlier today to bring gospel duo Mary Mary to their channel, via a new reality series. The show will reportedly feature the two sisters, Erica and Tina Campbell, sharing with the public how they manage to juggle their ever growing families with the demands of a rigorous touring and promotional schedule.

The show is scheduled to debut Thursday, March 29th and will tentatively be titled “Mary, Mary.” Original, huh?

Press release below…

NEW YORK, NY – November 21, 2011 – Talk about a sister act! As the popular three-time Grammy® award-winning Gospel duo, “Mary Mary,” Erica and Tina Campbell are busy career women touring the country, promoting their sixth album, “Something Big” and walking Hollywood red carpets. More than that, they’re sisters and mothers who strive to balance hectic careers with growing families. Now, WE tv has greenlit a brand-new original series, tentatively titled MARY MARY, that follows the sisters in their daily lives as they work to do it all. The series premieres Thursday, March 29th at 9pm ET/PT with eight, hour-long episodes.

Music is a family business for the Campbell sisters: Erica’s husband, Warryn, is the group’s producer and Tina’s husband, Teddy, is the drummer in Jay Leno’s band. Outside of the recording studio, both ladies struggle to balance family life — a challenge all on its own. Erica and Warryn are expecting their third child in February, and Tina and Teddy are raising a blended family of four. The sisters also have a very large, extended family of seven siblings to deal with — one of which is the group’s stylist — and their parents, who have been married and divorced three times to each other, and now currently separated. When it comes to finding harmony, singing’s the easy part!

Mary Mary is produced for WE tv by eOne Televison, executive produced by Tara Long, John Morayniss, Eric Hoberman and Mitchell Solarek. Kate Farrell serves as the executive producer for WE tv.
