Brown Sista

Both Ciara and Rihanna are said to be in the studio putting the finishing touches on their next albums. That however isn’t stopping these sistas from putting in the required time at random Hollywood parties and events. With her musical carer put on hold temporarily, Ciara seems to have set her sights on the modeling world- showing up almost weekly to one fashion event or another. Last week it was the Victoria Secret flagship store opening in New York city and this week it was the Miu Miu (Prada) Cocktail party. Ciara hasn’t completely forgotten her musical roots however- and recently gave fans a behind the scenes look at the making of the art work for her new album and also went into more detail about the Super C persona that she recently introduced to the public.

Here is someone we haven’t seen posted on BrownSista in a while. Rihanna seems to be keeping a very low profile as of late. However, the sista did come out of hiding over the weekend to perform at the 2008 KIIS FM Jingle Ball Concert. Rihanna was actually just a special guest and chose to skip the red carpet- taking to the stage only briefly to perform the remake of her hit single, Umbrella, with singer Chris Brown. Rihanna also made news recently, nabbing three Grammy nominations for herself and already being confirmed as a performer at next year’s show.

The 35th Annual American Music Awards ceremony was held last night and it was quite a huge evening for Brown Sistas. Both Alicia Keys and Rihanna walked away with multiple statuetts, two a piece and gave blockbuster performances to boot. Alicia gave an amazing performance of her single, Superwoman, with raptress Queen Latifah and opera singer Kathleen Battle. Rihanna also gave a spectacular performance of her single Rehab and did so while wearing the most amazing bad ass biker babe outfit I have ever seen- complete with jewel encrusted eye-patch. Next up was Sasha Fierce who was not about to be left out of all the hoopla. Though Beyonce was not up for any awards, she did perform her soon to be #1 hit, Single Ladies and totally brought the crowd to their feet.

Check out Rihanna’s new commercial for Gucci. Creative director for the company, Frida Giannini, has said, “I wanted Rihanna on board with this project because she’s so young, so modern, and so iconic.” Rihanna adds, “I have always been a fan of the Gucci brand and the products- especially their handbags. But most of all, I’m very very intrigued by what they’re doing with UNICEF. As an artist, I feel like it’s our duty to make the world a better place if we can. I’m blown away by what UNICEF has been able to accomplish in Africa with the money that Gucci has donated to them. I’m very fortunate to be part of this wonderful collaboration.” 25% of all handbag proceeds from the “Tattoo Heart Collection” will benefit UNICEF.

Three weeks ago we posted photos from the set of Rihanna’s Rihab video, which features singer Justin Timberlake. Well now you can check out a short preview of the video above. As expected, Rihanna looks great, Justin is- well Justin- and the single is destined to go to #1.

Bitch, I’m Special- doesn’t the title just jump out at ya? Well if it doesn’t the song itself just might. Bitch, I’m Special is the latest single to leak from Rihanna and is said to be material from her upcoming 2009 album. The song doesn’t move me as much as Sexuality did, but hey- it’s just a demo. I’m sure once Rihanna’s talented team of producers tweak it a bit, it will become another potential hit in her very extended arsenal.
