New J. Hudson Music: Spotlight

Just like her Dreamgirls co-star Beyonce Knowles, singer Jennifer Hudson is in the studio recording material for her new album. Jennifer has been signed to J Records for quite sometime now but her debut CD has been pushed back repeatedly, mostly due to her work in feature films. However, 2008 is destined to be the year Jennifer’s album finally sees the light of the day- and the rumored first single from that album has officially been leaked. Jennifer’s single is entitled Spotlight and was reportedly written by Ne-Yo and produced by Stargate. Click here to take a listen.

Whitney’s Surpise Comeback

Whitney Houston & Bobbi Kristina Singer Whitney Houston made a surprise return to the spotlight last night, taking to the stage at the Swarovski Fashion Rocks show in London, England. Rumors had Whitney performing but instead she stepped onto the stage decked out in a gorgeous white Valentino dress and introduced the final catwalk show of the night, while Patti Labelle and The Sugarbabes ( A British version of Destiny’s Child) sang Lady Marmalade. As you all know, Whitney is trying to make a comeback in 2008 and random appearances, while looking like a million bucks, is generally part of the comeback strategy. Hopefully Whitney will return to the U.S soon and grace her American fans with not just an appearance but an performance. I know the world, like myself, wonders if Whitney’s pipes are as incredible as they used to be.

Rihanna Performs For Unicef

Rihanna Rihanna is reminding me of Beyonce more and more everyday. Not only is her sense of fashion as impeccable as Beyonce’s is, but she stays on the grind like Beyonce as well, recognizing the importance of being seen and staying in the spotlight. You know what they say, outta sight, outta mind- and judging from the amount of candid photos and appearances Rihanna has made this week, it doesn’t look like she’s about to let the public forget about her any time soon. However, Rihanna is no publicity whore and has a very good reason for having such a high profile this week- and that is the Unicef concert she performed at last night with Akon. Like any good celebrity, Rihanna is using her fame (and vocal cords) to benefit those less fortunate than herself . Now, on the count of three, let’s all saw “Awwwww” (lol).

Whitney Houston Sighting

Singer Whitney Houston was spotted in midtown Manhattan today having lunch with Clive Davis at the Nobu 57 Restaurant. As many of you already know, Clive was the wind beneath Whitney’s wings at the beginning of her career and is now personally overseeing her comeback CD, which is rumored to be released sometime in the new year. So far Akon and Ne-yo have been brought on board to help Whitney regain the pop stardom she once had, but I would rather see Diane Warren, David Foster or Babyface writing and producing for her next project. Diane, David and Bayface all gave Whitney some of the biggest hits of her career and are true songwriters and producers, not just beat makers.

Spotlight: Elise Neal

Elise Neal Elise Neal is one of my favorite actresses but I rarely get information about her worth posting. Aside from her girl group, Assorted Flavors, and the occasional rumor that she will portray Karrine Steffans in the film adaptation of Video Vixen, very little else is ever written online or in print about this sista. This however has not stopped Elise from making the occasional appearance at Hollywood functions and such is the case with the pic to your upper right. Elise was one of several actresses who took to the runway for the Celebrity Catwalk For Charity Event.

Inside Vibe Vixen’s Final Issue

Final Vixen As previously reported, Vibe Vixen has released it’s final issue with Rihanna on the cover, and in true Vibe style, they sent me my digital and print issues weeks late. I am somewhat forgiving though as this issue doesn’t appear to be half as boring as many of the others. Hoping to go out with a bang, Vixen not only featured Rihanna on the cover and in an amazing fashion spread, but also had a great round table discussion with various women in the entertainment field about the representation of Black women in the media and even threw in a little scandal by featuring a very in depth interview with Karrine Steffans. Oh, and did I mention fellow Brown Sista blogger, Natasha Eubanks of YBF, is also featured in the magazine?
