Anyone who has read this blog long enough knows how I feel about sistas and tattoos- or should I say, sistas who get too many tattoos. Singer Mary J. Blige falls into this category and so does does Keyshia Cole. I love’em - but both have diminished their look and overall femininity with overly large tattoos that jump out at you the moment you see them. Rihanna, pictured above, is slowly joining the crew- as she was spotted recently get inked up even more than she already is.

Singer Keyshia Cole will grace the December cover of Vibe Magazine and what a stunningly beautiful cover it is. I am so loving Keyshia’s new vibe. Her latest photo shoots are completely different from those she did when she first came out. This time around there seems to be a deliberate attempt to downplay her rough edges and instead concentrate her inner and yes, outer beauty. Just look at the cover to your right. It’s the best cover I have ever seen of Keyshia. She looks absolutely gorgeous. From hair to make-up, to styling- wait, she has no clothes on- and yet that is perfect too. However, what I love most of all is that someone was smart enough to airbrush out that tattoo on her arm, making this cover absolutely perfect.

When not making plans to sue Eddie Murphy for all he’s worth, Melanie Brown spends her free time getting ready to resurrect the band that made her a superstar nearly 10 years ago. The Spice Girls are ready to give us what we really, really want, and we’ve got the overly airbrushed promo shot from their upcoming tour to prove it. Though the Spice Women are all in their early thirties and hardly in need of artificial enhancement, someone clearly thought otherwise.

America’s Next Top Model winner Eva Pigford is the latest celebrity to be captured on film doing what we have all done- making love. Unfortunately for Eva, the man who was in possession of this tape has now decided to release it to the whole world and thus Eva will soon be on Dr. Phil crying her eyes out. Eva has been my favorite ANTM winner so far and I really hate to see her image tarred in such a way, but at the time this event is the perfect excuse for me to tell all you sistas out there to STOP. Essence magazine is paying tribute to Mary J. Blige in their June issue by dedicating an unprecedented 10 pages to the singer and releasing two different covers for this collector’s edition of the magazine. Using the movie Mahogany as their inspiration, Essence put together a stunning photo shoot with Mary and her husband Kendu Issacs, who has graced the cover with Mary twice before. Not to be out done, VH-1 has also jumped on the I Love Mary J. bandwagon and will be paying tribute to the singer and soul music in general, during Black Music Month. You will be able to hear from the Queen of Hip-hop Soul herself as she shares the intimate inspirations for her music. The six-part documentary chronicles the evolution and ascent of soul music, taking fans through gospel, Motown, funk and closing with “From Ghetto to Fabulous,” which features Mary’s contributions to the genre.

Sistas and tattoos- where do I start? Much like 10 inch nails and purple hair- tattoos are the newest thing sistas have decided to overdo. I swear we as a people are like peacocks- we like to be seen.We are flashy and don’t get me wrong this can sometimes be a good thing. However when overdone we often end up looking like fools and such is the case with sistas and their multiple tattoos.
I remember back in the day when all women had the same tattoo- a delicate little rose on the ankle. That was back when ladies wanted to be a little edgy, a little sexy, but still feminine. Well the times sure are a changin’- but for sista’s mostly. Black women can now be seen sportin’ tattoos on their breasts, thighs, arms, and even their necks. What kind of woman gets a tattoo on her neck?
