While no official announcement has been made yet, it’s pretty much a given (according to Variety) that Yaya DaCosta’s hit NBC series Chicago Med will be returning for a third season. Among its scripted shows, the hospital-based drama is NBC’s sixth highest rated in demo (avg 1.26), third highest rated in total viewership (avg 6.7 mil.) and is part of Dick Wolf’s always reliable ‘Chicago’ franchise.

YAYA DACOSTA DESERVES BETTER THAN CHICAGO MEDWhile I haven’t had a lot of time to watch television lately, I have made it a point to try and keep up with a few new fall shows. High on my list was Chicago Med, which co-stars former America’s Next Top Model contestant Yaya DaCosta.

Hospital and procedural type shows usually aren’t my thing, but because DaCosta was being promoted as the show’s female lead, I decided to tune in to show my support. I did the same thing a few years ago with Sleepy Hollow, and was pleasantly surprised at how much I actually like the show.

First Look: Yaya DaCosta in ‘Chicago Med’


Here is your first look at Yaya DaCosta as nurse April Sexton in NBC’s newest medical drama Chicago Med.

The Chicago Fire spin-off is expected to debut as a possible mid-season replacement and co-stars Nick Gehlfuss, S. Epatha Merkerson, and former Walking Dead actress Laurie Holden.

According to the Hollywood Reporter, there was a slight bidding war for the model turned actress after her lead role as Whitney Houston in Lifetime’s biopic on the singer garnered her rave reviews. NBC reportedly won out and secured Yaya for Chicago Med, their most promising new drama of the season and the third installment of their Chicago franchise.

Yaya DaCosta Tapped for Lead Role in NBC Pilot

Model turned actress Yaya DaCosta has landed another plum acting role. Per Entertainment Weekly, the 32-year old Harlem native has landed a starring role in the “Chicago Fire” spin-off “Chicago Med.”

Yaya will take on the role of Maggie Seaver, a beautiful young nurse who begins dating firefighter Kelly Severide, whom she has known since high school.

DaCosta’s character will be introduced in episode 19 of this season’s “Chicago Fire,” which was recently renewed for a fourth season by NBC, after posting impressive ratings gains amongst the coved 18-49 age range.

Yaya DaCosta Pays Tribute to the Icons


Model turned actress Yaya DaCosta, who stars as singer Whitney Houston in this Saturday’s Lifetime original movie “Whitney,” used one of the singer’s biggest hits, “I’m Every Woman,” to pay tribute to the pop diva and a host of other female icons.

Via her website, Yaya said one of her favorite things about Whitney was how much she encouraged other women. She also noted the fun she had recreating the singer’s “I’m Every Woman” video for the film and how it inspired her to visually pay tribute to some of the world’s greatest female icons, past and present.

Actress Yaya DaCosta can be seen singing Whitney Houston’s “I’m Your Baby Tonight” in the latest clip provided by Lifetime for their upcoming biopic on the singer’s life.

Of course DaCosta isn’t actually singing, because as previously reported, the film’s vocals are actually being provided by R&B singer Deborah Cox, best known for her 1998 single “Nobody’s Supposed to be Here.”

Yaya DaCosta Lands New Role + Nia Long Loses One

While Yaya DaCosta is celebrating landing yet another coveted acting role, actress Nia Long is doing just the opposite, having learned her WEtv drama “The Divide” will not been renewed for a second season.

Yaya, who just wrapped up principle shooting on Lifetime’s Whitney Houston biopic, recently revealed via her Instagram page that she will be co-starring in the upcoming 1970’s gangster flick “The Nice Guys,” which stars Ryan Gosling (Only God Forgives, Drive) and Russell Crowe (Noah, Man of Steele).
