Health concerns have forced singer Tamar Braxton to drop out of this season’s Dancing with the Stars. Via her Facebook page, Tamar informed fans that what doctors originally thought was pneumonia, is actually something far more serious.
After not feeling well, Tamar says she went to the hospital before Monday night’s show, but still chose to perform despite doctor’s orders. However, with her symptoms progressively getting worse, Tamar says she returned to the hospital after the show, only to be told by doctors she did not have pneumonia, but rather blood clots in both her lungs.
Recognizing the severity of the situation, Tamar immediately put business on hold, withdrawing from the competition, and her upcoming tour with Kem and Mary J. Blige.
Tamar thanked fans for their support, and said she hopes to one day return to the show and finish what she and partner Valentin Chmerkovskiy started.
You can read her statement below.
While I do not watch DWTS, I have been reading quite a bit about the show this season, thanks to my following Tamar on Instagram and her hashtag on Tumblr. It appears Tamar’s been involved in several controversies this season, including one where she was lambasted for being too boastful, only to find herself with the evening’s lowest score. Tamar went on to out the producers, saying her comments were scripted.
Fans have also been complaining about Tamar being portrayed as an angry black woman to the voting public. Again, I don’t watch, so I don’t know. But I’ll say this, sometimes when things aren’t good for us and we won’t pull back from them, our bodies will step in and do what our minds or hearts will not.
If Tumblr is to be believed, DWTS thrives off of drama, and has a fan base that can be very hateful towards contestants. A casual Googling of this show also turned up quite a bit of negativity. In my opinion it, and its fans are poison, and while Tamar might not know it now, she’s probably lucky to be leaving it behind.
