Taraji P. Henson is ‘Proud Mary’

First Look: ‘Proud Mary’ Poster + Trailer

If you love Taraji P. Henson as much as we do around here, then you’ll probably be super excited to check out the poster and first official trailer from her upcoming film Proud Mary. As previously reported, the Screen Gems thriller stars Henson as a sympathetic hit woman willing to do anything to protect a young child who suddenly comes into her care after a hit goes wrong.

The poster, which you can see in full by clicking the image above, harkens back to the blaxploitation films of the 1970’s, as does the trailer which features Tina Turner’s solo version of Creedence Clearwater Revival’s tune Proud Mary, which she and Ike Turner re-recorded and released in 1971.

Proud Mary is just one of several upcoming films Taraji is set to star in. Also on tap is The Best of Enemies co-starring Sam Rockwell, as well as Richard Pryor: Is it Something I Said, Ralph Breaks the Internet: Wreck it Ralph 2 and Tyler Perry’s She’s Living My Life, which will co-star Ajiona Alexus and Tika Sumpter.

  1. Good for Taraji. But her face being obscured on the poster is one of those things Hollywood does to hide a black character’s ethnicity. It was done with Angela Bassett in What’s Love Got to do with It? and even Whitney Houston in The Bodyguard. They don’t try this trickery with anyone but us.
