The Rihanna Effect

Rapper Eve is the latest sista to be struck by what I call “The Rihanna Effect”. Here the sista is below at a MAC Viva Glam Celebration and the 7th on Sale benefit gala sporting her new short do.

Keyshia Cole, another desciple of the Rihanna movement, was also seen last night performing on The Double Up Tour. She’s cute, but I hate the shorts with heels look- it’s so Amerie-ish.

Eve looks a lot like Whitney Houston in that first picture. Why in the heck would anybody scar their breasts with dog paws is beyond me.

Keyshia Cole looks really good

I am going to RESPECTFULLY throw in my two cents. I disagree that this is the Rihanna-effect, especially when placing that label on Mary J. Blige. Truth is, Mary J. done had every hairstyle and color under the sun, so maybe it should be the Blige-effect. And If y’all really want to go back, Salt-N-Pepa also sported a dramatic angular bob.

As for Eve, she’s looking good, but the paw print tattoos have got to go. They worked for an up and coming lady of ruff rider or whatever she was, but it’s a different ball game, and she seems to be going for classy. Lose the tats.

    Happy Friday!

That asymmetrical bob cut is coming back with a vengeance. Even I want go for this (But I’d rather keep my hair…easy to lose, tough to grow it all back). I don’t think Rihanna did it first, but I must say she is the one that made me say “That is so cute.”, especially when it’s in curls. Eve looks nice, and I for one love her tattoos. I’m a body art lover, though (Unless it’s something awful, common, and plain uninteresting). I thought Keyshia Cole was Kelis at first glance.

Eve looks smoking in that 3rd picture with the red lipstick.

Keyshia will continue to do the heels and shorts thing, it’s always been her thing since she was first released.

I don’t think at all that it is the ‘rihanna’ effect. She wasn’t the first woman to wear a bob nor will she be the last.

Of course Rianna wasn’t the first to wear a bob haircut. Few people if any today are really doing anything original. However Rianna definitely brought this look back in style. Right now it is all about the big hair wiggy weave look and few if any sistas stray too far from that look. Rianna took a chance however and it paid off and others are following suit. Look at Mya who just did the same thing. Rianna is mos def the new trend setter and the reason behind the new look Black women are all wearing now. :brownsista:

DO U PEOPLE UNDERSTAND THE MEANIN OF EFFECT?

WE ALL KNOW RIHANNA DIDNT INVENT THE LOOK, BUT U MUST ACKNOWLEDGE THE FACT THAT ALTHOUGH SALTNTHIS, MARYJ, TBOZ, ETC, WERE WEARIN THE LOOK NO ONE WAS INTERESTED IN COPYIN IT. UNTIL RIHANNA DID IT FUH 2007, A LOT OF GIRLS ARE DOIN IT, THAT IS THE EFFECT NOT “RIHANNA’S CUT”. IT IS TO SAY THAT RIHANNA’S CUT FUH 2007 INFLUENCED KEYSHIA, EVE, MYA (MEDIATAKEOUT HAS THE PICS OF HER NEW DO), TRINA(SHE IS A BIG RIHANNA STYLE FOLLOWER) ARE NOW SPORTIN THIS LOOK. BARBADOS GOT NUFF RIHANNA HAIR IMPOSTERS, AND I AM SURE THERE ARE ORDINARY GIRLS IN AMERICA DOIN THE SAME THING FOR 2007.

so it is definitely the RIHANNA EFFECT.

Well actually it all started with Kellis, she cut her hair because she said she did not want to look like everyone else. Rihanna did it after Kellis & now everybody & their mammas are rocking the same look. I must say it’s not for everyone. In my opinion it goes very well with Kellis & Rihanna, the rest of them need to stop copying.

Actually err’body & their cousin is wearing the bob this year. Mary has worn her hair every which way before.

Actually, Monica was rocking this sort of bob back in 2000 or so, when she cut her hair and dyed it blonde.

Despite this, though Kelis and Posh did it last year, Kelis is under the radar and Posh is white. When Rihanna’s handlers gave her the ‘do, since she is out in the public eye in full force, she was the person who caught everyone’s attention, and in this declining game, every black female artist who is Beyonce or Ciara saw how popular and mainstream Rihanna got after she changed her look and probably hope that the benefits of rocking the ‘do will rub off on them.

And also, no one but Kelis, Posh and Monica cut their hair. Not even Rihanna. It’s all weaves/wigs.

:stop: Ok, Eve does look more mature with this cut, but I wouldn’t call it the ‘Rihanna Effect’…I recall Halle Berry, MJB, Salt-N-Pepa and Whitney Houston wearing a variation of this bob back in the day and let’s not forget Kelis in her ‘Bossy’ video who rocked it with that tight a$$ cut. Rihanna is cute, did her thang in the ‘Umbrella’ video and got a nice (previously rocked) hair cut but hardly set the trend for it.

I think that Rihanna, Keisha Cole, Eve and Mary pull off the look rather well. And although the look is not new it is refreshing to see a new take on the classic bob. If othere chosse to follow the trend it just says how hot it actaully is.

Eve, Rhianna, and Keyshia Cole (however you spell her name) all look good in this style. Not too many can pull it off, trust me, I’ve seen some “DSBI” (depressing styles by influence). So those of you who are considering this drastic change. Get it quick weaved or buy a wig first, you know, so you can grow into it, feel it out a little and see if you like it on you, because once it’s gone…it’s gone and you will have to tussle with it until it is at a tolerable length. Good luck! And those who are blonde, blue, and yea even pink (sistah’s)…hmm, hmm, hmm. Do we have to be so soulful? Not trying to roast you or anything. I’m just saying, can’t you get attention another way?
