Holiday movie, This Christmas, starring Regina King, Sharon Leal, and Lauren London, came in #2 at the weekend box office, taking in a whopping 28 million dollars. Hot on the heels of Tyler Perry’s Why Did I Get Married?, which has grossed over $54 million to date, along comes another ensemble film featuring an almost entirely black cast, and it’s grabbed a huge 5-day opening of an estimated $28.73M and a weekend-best $15,465 per theatre average. If those numbers hold, This Christmas will have delivered the all-time 13th-biggest 5-day Thanksgiving opening.

I went to see This Christmas on Thanksgiving night. It was okay — not great. The plot seemed weak to me. Some of the scenes seemed familar from other movies (like Soul Food). There were some good scenes though and the cast is great. It’s good to finally see Regina King playing in a leading role.

A lot of my family went and saw it, and they all loved it. I didn’t, though. Not a fan of Holiday movies, and it looked really cliché and corny to me on the commercial…but hey, doesn’t that describe a ton of Holiday movies?

I agree. I don’t care for holiday movies and I felt the same way you did when you said, “and it looked really cliché and corny to me on the commercial.” But if they did okay at the box office, good for them.
I saw the movie and it was a good typical holiday movie but that was okay arent they all like that around the holidays!
this movie is no good. chris brown really ruined it for me with his non-acting talent.
Chris Brown was used to pull in the teenie bopper audience. He was the winkest link though. The mivie overall was still pretty good though.

I liked it. A few things I would’ve changed towards the end but overall…. good movie. I’ve learned not to expect to much from movies these days.

I did enjoy this movie probably because I have kids and it had me thinking about when they get old and how different they may become, but all and all I really thought it was good. I hope Hollywood would get the message that black ensembled cast are money-makers. I hate black movies with a bunch of white people in it.
It was a pretty good movie. I enjoyed Edris Elba’s character. Not as good a movie as WDIGM but at least no one sold drugs or got shot. Although some one did go to jail, at least there was no cheesy typical wedding at the end. :lol:
It was garbage. Corny story, weak plot. Who cares that their mom with all grown children has a man living in the house? Why is that such a big secret? And they didn’t convince me on the ‘baby shouldn’t be singing’ thing. If momma knows anything, its that being an entertainer/athlete is were the money’s at. Betta let that boy sing. Why is that such a big deal? Wait for it on DVD.

:stop: but ummm this movie SUCKED!! str8 bootleg material! Acting wasnt great…at ALL… LLondon shoulda had more lines…that girl is good and CB was a dork. And why they called that women My Dear which souds like Medea is beyond me and VERY annoying!!
