Today’s Poll: Celebrity Scents

posted by Sista on August 19th, 2007 at 12:53 am

As you all know, female celebrities are coming out with their own fragrances at such a rapid pace that it is almost impossible to keep up with all the new scents. Beyonce is lending her name to Emporio Armani’s Diamonds fragrance. While Jennifer Hudson is now the new face of Avon’s long running Amari perfume. Not to be left out, Christina Aguilera, Gwen Stephani and even Mariah Carey have jumped on the bandwagon and are not just becoming the face of a product, but creating signature scents for themselves in the same way Cher, Elizabeth Taylor, and even Jennifer Lopez did.

Each of the ladies has chosen a unique way to promote their products in print, but do the ads actually work? Todays poll features ads from Beyonce, Jennifer and Mariah and the question of the day is simple: Which ad, if any, makes you want to purchase the perfume being advertised and why?

Poll Of The Day

  1. I don’t think the ads work at all. I think the image and reputation of the woman is what sells the perfume. Elizabeth Taylor was known as a beautiful woman who could have any man she wanted and stole other women’s men when the feeling so hit her. This appeals to women in general and they want to have a piece of what they think makes that woman so irresistible to men. This helped Jennifer Lopez as well. Her reputation with men made women want to be like her. Most people don’t even pay attention to those ads. They know long before they see them if they are going to want the fragrance or not. They even know before they smell it. Also, I know you didn’t include a pic of Christina’s ad but it will do well but poorly as appose to other perfumes by famous women. She has no appeal at all and her print ad looks like she has an infection or spiderweb on her back.

  2. Jennifer’s ad looks the most seductive and enticing. She looks like she’s waiting for her man to come join her. I would probably choose that fragrance based on the ad alone. Mariah’s ad looks to alone and self centeredm while Beyonce looks too wild. Perfume is meant to entice and Jennifer’s ad is the most enticing.

  3. Gotta do waht you gotta do to make money I guess…I’ll never buy not one if it smells funny. The only one I liked was Glow in the Dark by Jennifer Lopez, that’s it…and maybe Goddess by KLS.

  4. Oooh it’s between Jennifer and Beyonce. I really don’t go buy the ad, I go buy the smell and to me Amari smells better than Diamonds. Diamonds is too weak while Amari is flowery/woodys. But I understand your question so by ad I don’t know it’s between Jen and Bey. Mariah is too bland for me.

  5. AVON is a different format. Womenfolk like my aunties who live in rural areas will most likely purchase JHud’s Avon fragrance before they would any of the others.

I intend on giving Beyonce’s Armani scent a whiff and if it smells good, I’ll purchase. And while she’s promoting with commercials and I”m sure giant billboards and ads in magazines as well as in Department Stores, I think it will sell as other brands, not celebrity endorsed will. It’s just another fragrance on the shelf.

Also, it’s a matter of ‘where’ they’ll sell:

    Beyonce – Department stores
    Mariah – WalMart/Target/Drug stores
    JHud – Avon

  6. I didn’t even answer your question. LOL Sorry…okay, based upon the ads, I’d have to say it’s a toss-up between Beyonce’s and JHud’s. However, that purple, indigo, mystique JHud’s got going on in her print makes me a bit more interested. Beyonce’s is flashy and bright and would most definitely catch my eye when flipping through a magazine. Mariah’s…well my ‘eye’ might pass over…it’s too dark…and all I see is shoulders and ***. LOLOL Just kidding. JHud had me at “hello” LOLOL

  7. if someone else was promoting diamond i wouldve purchase it but beyawce?oh no i refuse to contribute to pay this pop sugary victoria’s secret next icon make up testing doll star’s bill that only engage me
how ever i smelled jen’s perfume and hmmm its sexy fresh and discreet just like a women should be enough with the vulgarity anyway i purchased it and im glad i did

  8. I got my free sample of Mariah Carey’s fragrance today and it really smells wonderful. Very sexy- very feminine. I’ll be purchasing this as soon as I see it in a store near me.

  9. Oh yeah, my 12 yaar old son and his dad say that they like it too. So that’s 2 thumbs up from the men in my family

  10. I would def try Bee’s and Mariah becuase I don’t do avon.
