With just one ‘Idol’ judging position left open, thanks to the exit of Steven Tyler, word is “American Idol” execs are looking to shake things up a bit and add a second female judge, rather than another male judge. And just who might that new female be, well according to Deadline, none other than singer Toni Braxton.
If this rumor turns out to be true, it will be the first season with two female judges rather than just one.
There is also word from the Hollywood Reporter than Aretha Franklin’s name is still on the table as well.
Never one to hold her tongue, producers are looking for someone who won’t hold back and believe Aretha may be their answer to the huge void left behind when Simon Cowell jumped ship to help aid his other fledgling talent completion “The X Factor.”
If I was a betting woman, I would put my money on ‘Idol’ adding another male and female. The show is reportedly looking to add the same level of public excitement “The X Factor” has experienced since bringing on pop tarts Britney Spears and Demi Lavoto.
On another note, I personally don’t think “American Idol,” “The Voice” or “The X Factor” will be around much longer. Too much focus is put on the judges rather than the contestants, which is probably why most people have no idea who won the last few seasons of any of these shows. Mariah Carey’s pig payday is a sign that ‘Idol’ didn’t learn its lesson from Jennifer Lopez’s big payday, which resulted in nothing but even lower ratings. Put the focus back on the contestants, stop choosing nerds as the big winner, and maybe, just maybe American will tune back in.
