Hosea Chanchez Directs Naturi Naughton in ‘Ruth’
During her downtime from filming Power last season, actress Naturi Naughton teamed up with Hosea Chanchez (The Game) to co-star in the independent film Ruth. The heartwarming family drama stars Chanchez as a single father (James Jones) raising his teenage daughter (Ruth) in the economically impoverished city of Detroit. With his daughter dreaming of becoming a ballerina one day, James eventually makes a decision that will likely change their lives forever.
Ruth marks Hosea’s first-time acting as director. During a recent interview with NPR, Chanchez says he’d been working on getting Ruth made for almost a decade, and credits close friends and family for helping him finally get the project off the ground.
FYI: Hosea cast Naturi to play his love interest in the film based on their close personal relationship. According to Naturi, Hosea is responsible for her landing the role of Tasha St. Patrick on Power.
After several years of unemployment, Naturi says she could not afford to splurge on make-up and wardrobe for her audition, so Chanchez stepped in, footing the bill for a new wardrobe. Naturi says it was her makeover that convinced producers she could pull off the role of Tasha, despite their original misgivings about her youthful appearance.
