Tyra Covers New York Times Magazine

Model and budding mogul, Tyra Banks, has scored a major coup by landing the June 1st. cover of The New York Times Magazine. The talk show host describes herself in the feature as a mixture of Oprah Winfrey with a side of Martha Stewart thrown in. NYT staff writer says of Tyra: “Her brand, like her trademark ‘tough but still smiling’ smile, is consistent in all her shows: serious about the frivolous; empathetic and empowering, and always, always aimed at young women, across all races. It’s girly TV with a punch”.

Not particularly feeling that quote but I am loving the mod cover. Tyra’s 1960s bouffant is a definite eye catcher.

Not buying the Martha Stewart bit. Beautiful and talented Tyra is. Martha is none of those things!

Now they know good and well that “Oprah” needs to be BEFORE “Martha”.

It’s a little thing, but a big thing.

I love Tyra. The picture is great, and I love what she is doing with her career. She delivers good messages in a young and spunky kind of way. We need more people like her in the industry.

She’s amazing, she’s such an inspiring woman, and may I say GORGEOUS. I heart her so much!!!

I think she truly is a legend in the making. I love how fierce and hardworking she is!

I don’t see anything TOUGH about her smile, not trying to start anything but I’m so tired of this “tough touch” often being added to describe a black woman.

    Girl, you ain’t said nothing but a word. I co-sign 100%.

I love, Love , LOVE Tyra — but her body looks weird here. On TV she appears to be an hourglass, but here she look s more pear shaped. Not that there is anything worng with pears, but I’m an hourglass and we never get any shine. Tyra was one of the reasons that I was able to love my figure when I was going through puberty and all those skinny b*thes were mean to me. LOL

I think her face is stunning, but the body looks photoshopped and not in a good way. Or , maybe she wearing a buble skirt or something, but I don’t like it. BRING BACK THE HOURGLASS! HA HA

I agree Tyra is a real positive role model for women, especially Black women. I agree that Oprah’s name should have been first. But if you think about it, Martha does have more brands out there than Oprah.

Nice pic of Tyra, I love her hair! Maybe it’s the Leo in me!

It’s what she’s always wanted. The next Oprah everyone! LOL. Kudos to her. Great image. Love Tyra, though dingy she may be sometimes, she is successful beyond the world of ‘modeling’. Insanely successful and diverse. Continued success to her.

I enjoy her show from time to time. She still has a lot of work to do to appeal beyond a core demo of 12-25 year olds. Her shows on more serious topics tend to be very weak. She still interjects her own experiences too much when speaking to guests and it drives me crazy!

She looks beautiful on the cover. I swear her and Beyonce rock the exact same wigs! I’ve done a double take more than a few times trying to figure out who I’m looking at. I like Tyra’s show sometimes, but it tends to be kinda teeny-bopperish. She will never reach the credibility of an Oprah Winfrey. That’s just not her niche. But, she fills a void, I guess.
