There will never be another Janet Jackson. Who but Janet could do this and get away with it? This performance from her 2002 ‘All For You” Tour is a fan classic. The entire performance is available on DVD and is worth the purchase. Enjoy !

Janet is an Icon and no amount of sexuality can take away from that. She is a performer and she performed. Btw, are you aware beauty that Beyonce clones Janet’s performance in her concert, bringing a man on stage and coo-ing all over him? She did it with her last concert, bringing out a lips shaped couch and enviting a male fan on stage. Britney Spears and Ciara also do the same. Janet’s performances of Rope Burn and Would You Mind in concert have spawned legions of copycatters.

I like seeing more facets of her performance. Not only has she been fun and socially conscious in her work but she can be a sexpot too.

I remember this concert as well, but I don’t think Janet was the first to bring out males on the stage. I seem to remember a little white girl named Madonna when she performed “Like a Virgin.” So even though I’m a Janet fan, she wasn’t the first to do everything. What does Like A Virgin have to do with what Janet does in concert. I have seen all of Madonna’s concerts and never has she brought a man on stage and performed for him as Janet does. Indeed, the bring a man on stage routine was started by Janet as far back as 1990 with her RN tour.

I have that DVD at home. Its on the Hawaii concert DVD. Personally, I liked it. There is a certain “freedom” in women expressing sexuality that they fully own. “Fully Own” as opposed to believing your sexuality is something that exists for someone else. Actually, she did do it to a dark-skinned brother. On the concert DVD they show the men she picked from the audience in a number of cities. There was a good cross section of men. In the special features you can pick the scenes you want to watch. One hilarious scene was from the other DVD in the collection where she did a lap dance type of move for a brother from NYC. He just kept screaming “I love you!!!” and shaking. It was so hilarious. He was not as passive as the young man from Hawaii.
Her real life man is a brown skinned man if that counts for anything.
I’m a dark skinned woman, but come on you guys–light skinned black men are STILL BLACK MEN. We can’t really afford to go excluding out men, numbers are scarce as it is!
It was a fun DVD if you aren’t too sexually repressed. I was surprised when I first saw it, but then when I saw his reaction I was laughing so hard.
I am not saying there is not a line that can be crossed from sexy to vulgar. But I do think that black women in particular, catch hell over our sexuality. We are damned if we do and damned if we don’t. Mammy/Jezebel syndrome. research it. It isn’t fair and it really does take away from the pleasure of being a woman.

speaking of Janet..I was looking at that JANET that I initialy thought was rising from a silvery water on her album…it just occured to me that the album is called discipline and there is an S&M type of Vibe. I bet $100 that it is supposed to be liquid latex! THere is a paint that you can paint onto your body and it drys into latex which can be peeled off.
IF that is the case, pretty subtle and creative because only people into that kind of thing would pick up on it.
