Viola Davis’ Emmy Acceptance Speech… in Gif Format

“‘In my mind, I see a line. And over that line, I see green fields and lovely flowers and beautiful white women with their arms stretched out to me over that line. But I can’t seem to get there no how. I can’t seem to get over that line.’

“That was Harriet Tubman in the 1800s. And let me tell you something: The only thing that separates women of colour from anyone else is opportunity. You cannot win an Emmy for roles that are simply not there.

“So, here’s to all the writers, the awesome people that are Ben Sherwood, Paul Lee, Peter Nowalk, Shonda Rhimes. People who have redefined what it means to be beautiful, to be sexy, to be a leading woman, to be black.

  1. What a classy speech. She shouted out every black lead actress on television. She shared that moment with all of them. Loved it. Viola is amazing. Hopefully Anika Noni Rise will join that list next year when her show debuts on CBS.

    Love the gifs.

  2. Yes to Viola, however I saw her acceptance speech on highlights when she was talking about flower’s, green grass, etc. I thought she just escaped from the plantation and landed at the Emmy’s. Then I heard the full context, and that she was quoting Harriet Tubman. I am very happy she recognized all the other black leading actresses of television shows. In particular Nicole Behrie, who gets little recognition from us or mainstream. I started watching Sleepy Hollow and continue to watch because of Nicole.
As for Anika Noni Rose, Sista I remembered you mentioned she had a pilot for CBS and she’s playing a lawyer or something, did that show get picked up? Another thing Sista, do you know if Halle Berry’s Extant got cancelled, as I noticed you used a pick from Monsters Ball. I watch Extant, I haven’t watched the finale yet, its of DVR. I watch the show for Halle, if anyone else had that show I wouldn’t watch. I’m assuming…
