Actress Vivica A. Fox is joining the cast of Empire in a recurring role. The Kill Bill actress is the latest high profile celebrity to be added to the show’s ever expanding season two line-up of characters.
Vivica tweeted the news to her followers this morning, but didn’t give many details. We did a bit more digging ourselves however, and discovered Vivica will be playing Cookie’s (Taraji P. Henson) estranged sister Lynette.
Cookie’s sister Carol (Tasha Smith) was introduced in season one. However, according to executive producer Ilene Chaiken, not all of Cookie’s relatives are as welcomed. “Cookie’s other family members are troublesome to say the least,” she told Entertainment Weekly. “Wherever they go, trouble is sure to follow.”
Lynette is expected to appear around episode eight, and continue throughout the season. Empire returns to Fox on September 23 at 8pm and is slated to run with limited commercial interruptions. The show is also scheduled for an 18-episode run, five more than season one.
And in another bit of casting news, actor Clarence Williams III will also make an appearance in season two, playing Lucious’ former mentor Huey Jarvis. If the name doesn’t sound familiar, he’s the guy that played Prince’s father in the movie Purple Rain.
