WDIGM Is The #1 Movie In America

tyler-film-1a.jpg Janet Jackson, Tasha Smith, Jill Scott and Sharon Leal have a lot of celebrating to do tonight as their movie, Why Did I Get Married, has officially been certified the #1 movie in America. Apparently no one thought Tyler Perry and his ensemble cast of d-list (yeah someone actually said that) actors could take the #1 spot, especially when going up against a new film starring Mark Wahlberg and Joaquin Phoenix. They obviously underestimated the power of the Black female dollar and Tyler Perry in general. Not only do sistas generally turn out to support one another but we drag our boyfriends and husbands along with us. It should also be noted that three of Tyler Perry’s four films have all opened at #1. So why does America keep underestimating this man and us? Who cares really. We came, we supported, we took the top spot. Btw, I saw the film earlier today and loved it. Did any of you guys see it and if so what did you think?

  1. Number one at the box office!! I must say – this honor is a well-deserved one. I’ve never seen a Tyler Perry movie before as I am not one for comedy. I knew this one was more of a drama, so I was looking forward to seeing this all-black cast. Everyone should see this movie. Jill Scott leaves you in tears. Tasha Smith steals the show!!

OMG! Janet Jackson surprised that I did not know she was that good of an actress. Jill Scott was the heart of that movie, she really made tear up. Tasha Smith is just hilarious, and comedic genius with her role. All the cast members were on point, all of them memorable. Tyler Perry is a genius! Thank You brotha for portraying african-american men and women in a good light!!! 2   up for this film!!!

I drag my boyfriend to go and he absolutely loved it1 He said it was not just about women.

  14. who ever is writing this blog needs to slow down
white women went to watch the movie too, i know its your blog and you can write what you want but stop always trying to put things in white and black terms
to be successful in america, you need the massed and the masses come in all colors
janet jackson is who she is because she millions of black and white fans

  15. I’m glad you asked the guys about their opinion. I was reading this and you stated that the power of the female dollar was underestimated. But I must say that the power of the black dollar was underestimated. When i saw the movie, i noticed males and females screaming at the screen and enjoying themselves. I must say that my guy friends were anticipating this movie as well. I thought it was a very positive and encouraging film. I saw a news cast recently with Tyler Perry and Janet Jackson and the reporter basically accused Tyler of ripping off an old movie called the Big Chill. I have seen both movies and although the concept is the same. Tyler’s movie inspired you after you left the theater to go out and be a better husband or boyfriend. Just a better person in general. I think it did the same for woman as well. By far one of the best movies i have seen in awhile. BTW love your website.

  16. Loved It!!!!!! I can’t wait to buy it, I could watch it over and over again.

  17. Yes, I saw it Saturday. It was so good, I laughed, cried, & laughed some more. I was so proud of the way that things turned out for Jill Scott’s character. Tasha Smith is so funny in this movie & it’s not overdoing it. Who ever hasn’t seen this movie should definitely go out & see it. It’s worth it. I don’t want to go into the movie to ruin things for all but the dinner scenario… OMG!!!

  18. I don’t think it’s America that’s underestimating Tyler’s works, it’s the critques… But they have the right to do so because his works aren’t exactly polished. HOWEVER, please do not mistake what I’ve just said for ‘hating’ because I heart Tyler Perry. It’s not the public, it’s not America and it’s certainly not Hollywood underestimating him. He wouldn’t have garnered as large a deal with Lion’s Gate had his ‘power’ not been as great as it was. Hollywood knew Tyler and his works would make major money. It’s just the critics; they don’t love him as much…at least not yet ๐Ÿ™‚

  19. Why did I get married? was off the hook! I loved Tasha Smith’s character and Jill Scott bought that movie to heart as well. All the cast did an excellent job and I will see it again this week with my friends, I saw it friday with my man.
Whoever called the actors/actresses in the movie d-listers is obviously a hater and resents the fact that those actors/actresses are living the life that the haters only dreamed of having. Not the hollywood is something to die for but Tasha, Micheal Jai, Malilk, Sharon, Jill etc are phenomenal actors and I’ll be looking for to see them in more films.

  20. I loved it. I didn’t think Janet and Malik oozed chemistry, but on the scenes when they weren’t one on one – they did great.

Jill did her thing, I am VERY proud of her, I hope her film career takes even more!

  21. :noway:
You just diagnosed the problem with black women in this country. Dragging your man to a movie is the reason why marriages and relationships end in the first place. lol And yes, Tyler’s movie may have kicked Clooney’s ass in the STATES, but make no mistake….Internationally…either “Michael Clayton” or “We Own the Night” will ultimately win. The only reason why Perry has such a large audience in this country anyway is because of the popularity of his stage plays, which is great, I’m not knocking that at all, he has his built in audience and that works for him. But IMO his stage plays do not translate very well to the big screen or television (his sitcom is downright horrible IMO). It’s a shame his audience has such low standards and they can’t see it, but he needs to hire someone to ADAPT his stage plays to both the big and little screen. My two cents.

  22. Damn haterz are EVERYWHERE!!!! And Sometimes, I dont even think they know they are Haterz

  23. Tyler whipped Clooney’s ass like he stole something, wore it and brought it back ๐Ÿ˜†
Don’t be mad Maria-full-of-hate. Try again next time and good luck overseas, you’lll need it :loser:

  24. Before Why Did I get Married? was released 2 out of 3 of Tyler Perry’s previous movies all opened at #1 with over 20 million dollars. So why would the media not even fathom that Tyler could be #1 again? They acted as if he was some low budget rent-a-director who had never made a movie before, when in fact he had a track record of coming in at the top. So the haters can hate but they will be hating at the bottom because we the fans who made Tyler #1 are too buy at the top gloating.

  25. I too enjoyed this movie! I love when I feel different emotions with a movie or a novel. I laughed, I was upset and I teared up a bit. It really was an awesome story!

“Why Did I Get Married?”

  26. Check out the e-mail Maria sent me when she was banned last night. She says she was banned for having a difference of opinion, but she was banned because I could sense who she was and why she was here and I am never wrong.

I get ostracized just because I gave my honest opinion about a movie. Typical response from narrow minded black folks who don’t like opinions different from their own cookie cutter ones. Fuck all of you watermelon chomping, coonin negroes.

    YT will never change…

  27. Stephanie, these are the things that go on when black women and men are successfull blog writers or movie makers, you keep writing, Tyler keep making your movies, because people black, white, or different are jealous of success. Jealousy has no color. I go through this at work. I work a an Irish catholic predominately white hospital. They wathch every thing I do, say,and even wear. :iagree: YT will never change!

  28. I saw it and loved I thought the whole cast did a good job, but I can’t front some parts got alittle chessy lol but I loved it anyways.

  29. “I donโ€™t think itโ€™s America thatโ€™s underestimating Tylerโ€™s works, itโ€™s the critquesโ€ฆ But they have the right to do so because his works arenโ€™t exactly polished.”

 Surely you’re not talking about this film :noway: A film with a beginning, middle and end, a well defined storyline and diverse characters?

WDIGM was an EXCELLENT piece of work! We LOVE you and SUPPORT you Mr. Perry!

  30. “Why did I get married” was awesome! I love this movie I laughed so hard and I had tears in my eyes. My husband and I went to see this movie and he enjoyed it very much as well. Tasha Smith and Jill Scott were the bomb! Every one did a great job! This movie was very realistic. Kudos to Tyler Perry he is the man  . And after we were done watching WDIGM we movie hopped two doors down to see Michael Clyton featuring George Cloney the supposedly competition. That movie was ok but I don’t see any oscar buzz around it. Let me tell you George Clooney’s movie had nothing on WDIGM. I fell asleep and my husband had to wake me up. How could those critics even compare Michael Clyton to WDIGM. That was a serious joke. And Mostar I too understand about how people are so jealous of success. I deal with that same problem on my job. And I have dealt with that problem all my life. I am (not being arrogant) considered to be a very beautiful woman :brownsista: by many people. And what ever I set my mind to I put together a plan and acheive it. I have and I am also involved in a lot of great things. They hate to see me coming on my job. Then they have a problem with the way I carry myself and my lifestyle. And they can’t understand how I am still going strong after all the darts they have thrown at me. It’s sad but true a lot of people can’t handle success, awards, and acheivements. I try to affiliate myself with very postive people that are not afraid or jealous of a straight foward, business minded, successful woman. But of course you know my circle is not that big. But let them hate and I will keep on doing me and living my dreams. Tyler Perry keep doing your thing brother from one highly favored and blessed individual to another  .

  31. Maria said,

^^^^^^^ LOL WHAT IGNORANCE. I LOVED THIS MOVIE SO MUCH THAT IM GOING TO SEE IT AGAIN. MY HUSBAND LOVED IT TOO. AND YES I DIG DRAG HIS BEHIND WITH ME. ๐Ÿ˜†

  32. :brownsista: :dance1: :dance2:  :booty: The movie was so emotionally charged i had to see it twice in a row!!!!!! I thank tyler for creating spiritually based films…He is the Best!!!! @ Stephanie-tx for dealing with the hater!!!!

  33. I love the movie i seen it last nite. Everyone was so good in the movie i think im going to see it again. I love taylor perry. Keep up the good work. Can not wait to see what u come out with next.

  34. Yes Des, I was talking about this film :brownsista: Sorry, but that’s how I feel. It was an enjoyable film, Tyler’s works mostly are, but sometimes, some scenes read/seem forced and overly cliched. I guess I’m referring to the dialogue, hence my statement about it not being ‘polished’ and even then maybe I should’ve used a different word. By comparison, the dialogue in Madea’s Family Reunion was a waste of the great talents of Lynn Whitfield. Or perhaps it was his direction? This film was better as far as direction goes.

Please no one call me a hater. ๐Ÿ˜† I”m far from it, but I do hold my opinion when it comes to film. I feel strongly about good film. This was enjoyable and I look forward to Tyler doing more work…I would just hope for his writing style (dialogue of characters primarily) would be just a lil’ more sophisticated LOL God, I’m gonna get screamed at for saying this. *sits back and waits on the backlash* ๐Ÿ˜†

Oh and to the poster above who says his works don’t translate from the stage-to-screen very well? I totally agree. BUT he IS getting better. :brownsista:

Had to be sure to support Tyler! Tyler you are such a good writer and faithful believer don’t ever think you need someone’s star power to make your movie because you didn’t!! Good job and CONGRATS!!

  37.  I think the movie is Tyler perry’s best
work yet,he seems to get better and better with each movie, all the artors were really great, they put a lot feeling into their parts,Janet almost made me think she lost a child in a car accident for real, and Ms. Scott was just fantastic,I hope more blacks come out to support these young, ,gifted and black actors and actorist at work

  38. :dance1: :dance2:   , I truly enjoyed Tyler Perry playing himself ,a strong black man that had some real isuues, some down to earth problems that are not covered over with a lot of special affects, and hypocrocy, and men made idealologies,a man that was not afraid to show his true feelings, his needs, and his desire to be loved VERY GOOD!!!! T.P. keep up the good work : ๐Ÿ™‚ :hifive:

  39. the movie was great…kudo’s to tyler perry and the cast…for showing that black people can work things out and keep a strong relationship..
