Weekend Performances: Rihanna

Rihanna was one of several high profile performers to take to the stage over the wekend at the 3rd. Annual Thisday Music and Fashion Festival. Hosted by model Naomi Campbell, Rihanna served as the opening act and treated the Nigerian crowd to a medley of her biggest hits, including Pon de Replay, Shut Up & Drive, Unfaithful, and her biggest single to date, Umbrella, for which the singer was joined on stage by rapper Jay-Z.

After performing at Thisday, Rihanna then headed over to Casablanca where she gave another performance. Click over to page 2 to read more about that and to of course, see what she wearing.

  1. Wow!!! Rihanna really is the “IT” girl right now. She’s everywhere…Concerts, magazines, internet blogs etc. She’s doing it all.

  2. I guess there has been a changing of the guards for the baddest chick in the game. Um…who will tell Beyonce and Papa Joe 2.0? LOL! Why these singers buy into this crap is beyond me. It’s a high profile job. But, its just a job nonetheless. If you don’t allow the media to put you on their pedistal, they won’t have the power to knock you off when they become bored. Enjoy it Rhi. Your replacement is in training as we speak. I love artists that bubble under the radar-Jill Scott, Tamia, etc… They bring the best without the drama.

  3. I hate when she makes that face in the second pic. But anyway go Ri Ri, Go Ri Ri

  4. LOve rih rih
How she made it to the rang of hotest chick in the game with her okay (yet improving)voice and weak dance moves makes me speechless BUt she has a great attitude and without her putting her business out there i feel close to her
like she could be a lil sister if she does not change she will go far much farther than any of her pop/rnb self proclaimed divas out there

  5. Her shoes in the pictures obn the second page look real nice……

    I like….

    But you go girl…..

  6. Love those shoes Riri! This chick is everywhere! Congrats to her

  7. Go ri-ri i love them shoes in the second picture. There always someone to take someone place but right now she doing the damn thing im so proud of her get RI-RI

  8. Her shoes are sick. SICK! I tell you! Looks like fun times were had by all. I wonder if she’s working on her new record and what different sounds, etc. (if any) she will bring to the table. 🙂

  9. Hey guys I don’t comment here often but I do come to this site everyday. But I have a question, its probably a stupid question and I kind of feel embarrassed asking it but here goes. Do any of you think that anyone can be in the top position of the music industry or do you have to have that special something so only a select few will ever be the “it” artist? Just wondering cause I would really like to hear yall’s opinions. Thank You.

  10. I THINK IF THE RECORD LABELS FOCUSED ON PROMOTING MORE THAN ONE ARTISTS (SINCE THERE ARE OTHER ARTISTS ON THE LABEL) THERE WOULD BE PLENTY OF ROOM FOR OTHER ARTISTS TO BE ON TOP. THEY GET THEIR SO CALLED “IT” PERSON, AND THAT IS THE ONLY THING THEY WORRY ABOUT. AND THEY WONDER WHY LABELS ARENT MAKING MONEY ANYMORE. THEY PAY THE RADIOS TO PLAY ONE ARTISTS OVER AND OVER AGAIN, PUT MILLIONS OF DOLLARS INTO THIS ELABORATE TOUR, AND THEN BAM, THEY DON’T HAVE THE MONEY TO PROMOTE ANYONE ELSE ON THEIR LABEL, AND THAT’S WHEN PEOPLE GET FIGGETY, AND START TALKIN’ SHIT ABOUT THE “IT” PERSON. BECAUSE THEY ARE TIRED OF SEEING THEIR ASS. PEOPLE WANT VARIETY, AND THE LABELS NOWADAY ARE FALLING VERY SHORT ON THAT

  11. Rih Rih with her non singing self is not the hottest in anyone’s game.LOL

  12. ^^ That I can agree with! Her fashions are off the hook! Singing!LOL She really needs to drop the mic and model full time!

  13. Going w/ the crowd here:
pg 2… the shoes??! Pure HOTT! Straight FIERCENESS there!

    @ MDC:
I believe a person {artist} can only be at the top in the music industry if they have “the look(s)” and a little bit of talent compared to so much friggin talent and okay or similar to someone else in the looks department.

  14. ““Rihanna has scored 10 top 40 hits since her career launched in 2005. More staggering, the 20-year-old has four songs riding the Pop 100: top two ‘Take a Bow,’ Maroon 5 duet ‘If I Never See Your Face Again’ just entering the top 40, ‘Don’t Stop the Music’ inside the top 40 after 30 weeks—and now ‘Disturbia.’ It’s safe to say that Rihanna is the premier artist of the second half of the decade, with no signs of wear and tear. Rihanna has become the trustworthy ‘it’ girl of our time.””

    10 TOP 40 HITS IN 3 years?
    Damn…..

  15. Thanks everyone for answering my question, I really apperciate it.

  16. singing is about 30 % of making it. its about the IT factor. you got to have the look the personality and be different.if you have the voice of 10 Whitney. and you’re not easy on the eyes you wont make it big the music business. its more of a visual thing now especially with the internet, magazine and 500 channels tv. the artist have to be able to be sold to all America not just urban America. thats how Jay z market rihanna to suburbia . he had her touring malls in suburbia top 40 radio not urban radio. lets keep it real black America don’t support Rihanna

  17. Does Rihanna have 10 grammy’s? Has she sold 130 million records? Is she lead singer of the best selling female group of all time? Does she have 183 magazine covers? Does she have 5 commercials on t.v? Does she get called the Queen by her peers? Can she sing? Can she dance?

The answer is hell no to all of these questions, so can someone explain to me why in the world some of you on here think she is the hottest chick in the game? Last time I checked people were still calling Rihanna the bajan BEYONCE. Last time I checked Rihanna, Ciara, Ashanti, Cassie, and every black singer out there was being compared to Beyonce. Please believe that Beyonce is still the hottest chick in the game. She is the most successful black female artist of this decade. Period. Dont let blogs and a few #1 singles fool you people into believing that Rihanna is the hottest. What do you think will happen to Rihanna when Beyonce drops her next album? It will be Rihanna who? Everybody knows that when Beyonce drops an album it’s an event. Rihanna dont have that kind of impact. Beyonce and Alicia Keys are the only black female artists so far of this generation who might become legends. Rihanna wont get far with her voice and lack of talent. “it” girls (jlo) dont have longevity. Talented artists do.

  18. With is all this hate for this girl come on now sound like a bunch of hateful women. All this different sight talking about the both of them. Rihanna is not worry about b or vise versa. So why is all the beef with them. I feel like this they both doing there thing both beautiful black women that is doing what they love to do and you can give them both mad credit. This girl started by herself and killing them with everything she got. I first did not like beyonce because all the bull her family put them girls through when they was a group. But now it like damn do not drink the hatarade just enjoy beyonce success that it. Im going to enjoy rihanna too and any other female artist is trying to do the damn thing. But i have to respect everyone comment on here. They both got a wonderful fan base it just the hater that can not stop comparing the both of them. There style or different and there sound. In the industry everyone bit off of each other so please stop all the hate.

  19. Why do people have to constantly compare Rihanna to Beyonce. The industry is big enough to have more than one superstar. Let the girl enjoy her success. Geez. It isn’t that serious people.

That is why I love the days when music was music and you had a variety of artist doing their thing. There was no competition, just pure genius, soul, talent and passion.

  20. Woman are so catty. The only reason you women are hating on Rihanna is because she is young, beautiful, skinny and wealthy.

  21. Malcolm said :
singing is about 30 % of making it.

    I say:
we’re in 2008 so i think singing is 15% of making it
BUt i agree with your statement

Rihanna is the hottest chick in the game regardless

  22. I agree realtalk, to a certain extent.

Rihanna is definitely doing her thing. I can’t deny that. She is gorgeous and talented in her own way, but she is not the hottest chick in the game, IMO. (I am a fan)

But I will say she is definitely shutting the fashion game down!

  23. Umm, there are other successful, hard working black female celebrities in the music business besides Beyonce and Rihanna.
Queen Latifah who runs her own business, has major endorsements, is an Oscar nominated excellent actress, rapper, singer and is a legend. She has been in the business for over 20 years. Queen Latifah/Dana Owens does all of this without the help of Mommy and Daddy.

The only reason people focus so hard on Beyonce and Rihanna is because these two have a few things in common; looks, light skin and Jay.

  24. @ realtalk: Agreed.

    @ condemners:

Ladies we’re not hating. We’re just telling it like it is and calling it how we see it. The talent just isn’t there.

  25. The talent just isn’t there.

Then WHY is she as large as she is? 😆 I mean, how is it she’s come to the pass of being an international superstar if she has no talent? Or are you saying she’s not as talented as her contemporaries? If that’s the case, I most definitely see where you’re coming from and I agree.

Umm, there are other successful, hard working black female celebrities in the music business besides Beyonce and Rihanna.

    AMEN! 😆
Other Brownsistas are doing it big in the entertainment industry as well. Everyone can have a piece of the pie; it’s out there for us all! 😉

  26. There was enough room for Britney and Christina. There is enough room for Beyonce and Rihanna. Black women are our own worst enemies. You would much rather see a white girl have success than Rihanna.

  27. I say take Rihanna for what she is, as well as every other artist. I don’t fall for this hottest woman in the “Game” nonsense. The Music Industry is huge, HUGE . Some artists may be more popular than others, or even be deemed more talented, but there is no top spot. Personally, I like Rihanna. Is she the most super-duper talented woman in the world? No. I actually consider her an actress in a way, just as I do some other artists. But at the end of the day, Her pop music makes me happy and gives me something to dance to.

I don’t get the need to compare every single artist to each other, like people do Rihanna and Beyonce. I know this may be incredibly odd and mind-blowing…but you can listen to them both. You really can, and you don’t have to hate or down either of them.

  28. Rihanna is weak, good sense of style, but overall weak in every other aspect. I give her props for great productions though…African American media doesn’t even roll with Rihanna and her music they way they support Ms. Knowles (Essence, Ebony, VIBE, etc.) in addition to the typical “white” media/magazines.
