WHAT'S NEXT FOR NICOLE BEHARIE

What’s Next for Nicole Beharie, A Musical Perhaps?

Let’s keep it real, Sleepy Hollow is done. After remaining stable in its new Friday night, 8pm time slot for several weeks, the show’s ratings have suddenly plummeted, falling to a series low of 2.5 million viewers and a 0.6 demo. Fox owned or not, the chances of the show getting a fourth season are not looking well. So, with that said, let’s talk about Nicole Beharie and what we’d like to see her next career move be.

Personally, I’d like to see Nicole remain a part of the Fox family, and I’ve already found the perfect gig for her. While I know many fans were hoping Shonda Rhimes would create a vehicle for our girl, I’m looking elsewhere, specifically at Lee Daniels and his new Fox pilot about a girl group.

This Empire spin-off has named all its leads, which include Queen Latifah, Ryan Destiny, Jude Demorest and Brittany O’Grady. However, if you know TV like I know TV, then you know from looking at these chicks that this show lacks audience appeal right off the bat. There is no fire amongst this group of women and that is where Nicole Beharie comes in.

Nicole is an actress by trade, but as we’ve also seen, she’s an amazing singer and a kick-ass dancer. Nicole automatically brings an audience with her that the show will need in order to survive. It won’t last long if tries to live off of Empire’s hype, which has already faded to the tune of 4 million lost viewers this season alone. No, in order for this Lee Daniels spin-off to pop, it needs some Black Girl Magic.

I am never wrong. I told you Sleepy Hollow was a shit storm after I saw this season’s first episode and look where we are now. I also predicted Empire would falter in its quest to appeal to a non-black audience. Likewise, unless Lee Daniels’ new pilot adds someone who can bring in a targeted audience, this too will fail. Queen Latifah is old. Any audience she brings in will be old as well. And where as the other girls are young, I’m bored just looking at them.

This show needs some spice… some flava… it needs some Nicole Beharie.

  1. I like this idea. I’d love to see Nicole showcase all her talents and work with people who won’t see her as a liability.

  2. I can never get enough of that video of Nicole dancing. Who knew? She’s such a tiny ball of fire and a Lee Daniels project would be a great vehicle for her given how high profile it would be.

Sista, Sleepy Hollow’s demo went back up to a 0.7. It did lose viewers though, for the third week in a row I believe.

  3. I can never get enough of that video of Nicole dancing.

I agree. It’s like potato chips. I cannot watch it just once. I have to watch it over and over again. 😆

  4. Fox is also working on a pilot for “How to Think Like a Man.” I’d love to see Nicole do anything that will keep her in a STARRING role on TV. She’s too good for supporting. I hope the offers come pouring in once Sleepy Hollow gets the well deserved boot.

I know, but its still lost over 2 million viewers since the season began and a couple hundred thousand since it was moved to Fridays. And whereas demo trumps actual viewers, Sleepy Hollow is woefully low in both. I also think last week’s episode will cause even more viewers to jump ship this week.

  6. @Jamie

I think Meagan would be a good fit for Think Like a Man. I can’t see Nicole starring in that. I can see her starring in the pilot for Spike Lee’s She’s Gotta Have It.

  7. I would love to see her in some big hit movies , some Indy films, and maybe on broadway because I know she really enjoys theatre

  8. Nicole is definitely capable of carrying a large-scale feature film, and the independent movies, too. More movies, more network TV dramas for this one.

  9. I’ve yet to see Apartment 4E because Netflix is trippin’

  10. I don’t want to see NB in a Shonda series. As far as Fox goes, NB needs to get the hell out of Dodge when SH gets cancelled.

Apartment 4E was alright; however, I like American Violet and My Last Day Without You more.

  11. Shonda Rhimes’ star is fading. She’s lost the trust of her fans and that’s why her new show The Catch debuted to such dismal ratings. No one wants to get involved in a show and have the rug pulled from under them when Shonda has an emotional twitch. Greys fans are mad, Scandal fans are jumping ship. Nicole is best staying with Fox which has shown a willingness lately to take a chance on shows with black leads. All Shonda’s shows will have primarily white casts where if the lead is a black woman, she’ll be mammified like Olivia Pope.
