Whitney Houston Goes Home

The life of superstar singer Whitney Elizabeth Houston was celebrated Saturday afternoon at the New Hope Baptist Church in the singer’s hometown of Newark, New Jersey.

In a traditional Baptist “homegoing” ceremony, Whitney was eulogized by friends Tyler Perry, Kevin Costner, Bebe Winans, sister-in-law Patricia Houston and many, many others.

If you watched the ceremony live like I did, then you know what a beautiful service it truly was. Lasting just over four hours, Whitney’s funeral was full or laughter, love and plenty of good music.

Artists like Donnie McClurkin, Alicia Keys, R. Kelly, Kim Burrell and Stevie Wonder all performed tributes to Houston, whose love of gospel music was clearly on display.

The most touching moment of the service however had to be when Whitney’s gold casket was carried out of the church to the sound of her hit single “I Will Always Love You” playing in the background.

When they lifted up that casket the whole church seemed to gasp. It was as if at that very moment it finally hit people that our dear Whitney was really gone.

  1. Jesus was all up in there. We got the word, beautiful singing and songs, and the people were happy to see that their beloved Nippy had a great celebration of life. I truly believe she is in heaven singing those beautiful notes to Jesus and the other angels who sing just like her. SIP Whitney
