Whitney Houston Has Died

Oh God, I cannot believe I am reporting this. I was all set to log off for the evening when I checked my Twitter timeline and discovered that singer Whitney Houston had passed away. Jawn Murray, a very reliable journalist, confirmed the report and I am watching the sad news unfold right now on CNN.

I truly adored Whitney. Many of you know me as a Janet Jackson fan, but long before I loved Janet I loved me some Whitney.

May her beautiful soul rest in peace and may her family, especially her daughter, find comfort in their time of grief.

Expect the Grammys to be a somber occasion tomorrow night.

  1. Time I heard this news, I thought of you Sista. I have never commented on the site, but I have loved visiting here almost daily for some years know.

My condolences to you as a fan. I knew you loved her. Thank you for your classy coverage of Whitney even through her low points.

Let us all pray during this time.

  2. I absolutely LOVE LOVE LOVE Whitney Houston. I’m so saddened by this news. I’m literally in shock because I NEVER thought I would hear this news today. I mean we just saw pics of her two days ago. May her soul rest in peace.

  3. Beyond heartbreaking………….no words. RIP Whitney.

    We will always love you!

  4. This is just SO sad I was just watching it also on CNN hoping it wasnt true but it is. OMG, GOD bless your family ESPECIALLY her daughter as KNOWONE knows how it feels to loose your MOTHER until you have lost her. I lost mine a few years ago and have NEVER been the same since. I hope the family stays surrounded w/positive ppl and look to GOD for support because they will sure need it. This just hit like a rock, SO unexpected.

CNN just reported she was with R-Jay at the time and he’s the one who found her.

  5. And the Grammys are def going to be somber tomorrow. I wonder if they will have enough time to put together a special tribute or if its to short of a time. ๐Ÿ™

  6. I was arguing on this site with someone about Whitney today and finally walked away because I knew she didn’t really know me.

I never posted crack-ish looking pics of Whitney. I never maligned her in any post on this site ever.

I truly looked up to Whitney. A beautiful, classy Black woman who made me so proud growing up.

I am so hurt right now.

God bless you Whitney. God bless you. God bless you. God bless you.

  7. @TASHA32, I just tweeted that news from CNN about Ray J, but not 5 seconds ago did they retract that story.

    Sad either way.

  8. This is the first time I cry over a celebrity’s death. So sad right now, so sad. Stay strong Bobbi Kristina!

  9. You don’t know what you have until you lose it. She is an American treasure. What a loss!

  10. Sista,

I know how you feel. Whitney was the ULTIMATE diva. Despite her problems, she was always THE Whitney Houston to me. I didn’t care what people thought about her because I loved her. I’m so sad and still in utter disbelief.

  11. I updated this post and added my favorite Whitney performance of all time.

    Share the love y’all.

  12. And of course, her stunning performance of One Moment in Time at the Grammys. I’m so heartbroken right now. Why? Just why?

  13. Someone asked me who my favorite singer was I said Whitney Houston, my heart just broke in a thousand pieces… Watch now our fake ass community come out of the woodworks trying to pretend to support her…

  14. I’m in disbelief. May she RIP. Such a beautiful person, with a unmarkable voice that will NEVER be touched. I pray for Bobbi Cristina and her family..WOW.

  15. So sad, another loss. I didn’t I could feel the same way as I did when MJ died, but I do. Whitney’s music touched my SOUL, her public persona radiated such a beauty in spite of her personal battles. When I was writing I almost got an interview with Whitney, but her schedule changed. I was just thrilled at the mere thought she would grant an interview to a small publication. This is one artist I consistently prayed for as a person I only knew through her work. My sister used to do micro braids and you had to watch Whitney and Janet Jackson live concert VHS and DVDs if she braided your hair. Her music, like other zillions of fans has become etched into hearts! The press will continue to talk about her “demons”…but, nothing can taint her greatness!

Some people live out a long life fighting demons and some recover (Robert Downy Jr. & others). Addictions resulting from trauma, depression, esteem, emotional and chemical imbalances take many forms. Some people are cold, deceptive, sabotaging, envious, tormented and destructive, but only drug addiction and eating disorders [demons] are profiled in the media. So it’s easy for people to ridicule or wonder how, why? PAIN. Whitney’s life spoke out loud with very little to hide, she will be greatly missed!

  16. RIP Whitney
Now yall can expect everyone to start riding her coattail now that she’s gone. Everyone who called a crack head will be crying and talking about how they always had love for her. Look at how they did Michael.

  17. Thank you Whitney Houston for giving the world some of the best timeless music of all time. My heart goes out to your daughter, Mother and entire family. May you rest in peace, my beautiful sista.

  18. It feels like you have lost a friend. This is the same way I felt when Michael Jackson died. That is just so sad. She was one of my favorite singers of all times. Her, Sarah Vaughn, & Nancy Wilson. They are no words to say about this. I pray for her Mom and her daughter. I really pray for all of her family including Bobby Brown. Regardless of what you go through with a person when you have shared a life and a child there is some grief there with him as well.

  19. I’m still in disbelief…
I think it’s kinda ironic, and sad how a couple weeks ago we were just commenting on here about a Whitney movie and everyone was saying, no that shouldn’t happen now becuase she is still young, and still building her legacy etc. and this tragedy has happened so soon after. May she RIP.

  20. i am still in shock and am so saddened for everyone especially her family who knew her in a way we never will. but we love her talent and her spunk. she is going to be greatly missed. what a black history month to remember.

  21. This hurts so bad… for a minute the Divas were Janet, Anita, and Whitney for a long time. So many people say her voice was not what it used to be I never felt that way there was more emotion in her singing these days then the old days when every note was perfect. I am going to miss her so much. Everytime I take long road trips home I have Whitney, Mariah, and Toni on constant rotation. Never fails. I dont know if I can ever listen to her music with the same joyful amusement. Just as with Michael its just too sad.

  22. The world will will miss you but we shall never forget you because your music will continue to stand the test of time. RIP Whitney Huston

  23. She finally has peace.. Now we must join together and PRAY for Bobbi Chris.

  24. WHITNEY HOUSTON WILL ALWAYS BE THE BODYGUARD. NOONE COULDN’T TELL ME THAT WHITNEY AND KEVIN DIDN’T HAVE THE ULTIMATE CHEMISTRY IN THAT MOVIE. IT WASN’T TRASHY, BUT IT SURE DID MELT THE SCREEN.

THESE LITTLE GIRLS IN THE INDUSTRY SHOULD TAKE A LESSON FROM THE QUEEN, YOU DON’T HAVE TO BE OVERTLY SEXY ABOUT ANYTHING. IT COULD BE A LOOK, A STARE, A GLANCE, A BODY MOVEMENT, I.E. A SINGLE TOUCH, THAT WILL CAPTIVATE A MAN. IT DOESN’T HAVE TO BE A SUGGESTIVE MOVE ON STAGE, OR CLOTHING, IT CAN BE YOUR TALENT. WHITNEY WAS THE BADDEST IN THE GAME.

I USED TO LOVE WHITNEY INTERVIEWS, BECAUSE EVEN WHEN SHE WAS GOING THROUGH IT, SHE STILL HAD A CERTAIN DICTION IN HER SPEECH, A CERTAIN SOPHISTICATION IN HER POISE. I WOULD WONDER, THIS WOMAN HAS TO BE MORE THAN JUST HER PUBLIC PERSONA, LIKE BEHIND CLOSED DOORS, LIES A WOMAN THAT COULD BE CLASSY, SOPHISTICATED AND POISED.

AND ANN HATAWAY BETTER SAY SOMETHING, SINCE IT WAS WHITNEY’S COMPANY THAT CREATED THE PRINCESS DIARIES.

I KNOW COSTNER IS DEEPLY SADDENED, HE REALLY SUPPORTED WHITNEY IN THE MEDIA.

  25. My heart is heavy and my prayers are with Bobbi and Cissy and Bobby and Dionne and the rest of her family.

There will NEVER be another Whitney.

No one else can compare. God bless you, Whitney. RIP

  26. OMG….I’m so terribly upset. I’ve followed Ms Houstons career from the beggining. I will always love her and the beautiful music, creativity, talent, professional skills and ultimate beauty that she shared with us.

I cried because this was such a shock to me. Here we go again: Such a blessed and talented individual has departed away from us. I’m STILL missing Michael Jackson and tear up at times when I hear his music. I know I’m going to do the same thing with Whitney Houston!

Whitney Houston “the angel” has gone home to be with her God and to be with her Dad. May God keep her mother, daughter, family and friends close at this time. She was so close to her daughter, I know she is going to need special help right now.

RIP Ms. Whitney Houston…..We love and will always miss you!!! No one will ever be able to replace you in my heart!!!

  27. I must have been under a rock yesterday. For some reason I didn’t turn on the news until this morning. I thought I was still asleep so I turned off my tv and turned it back on. It’s unreal. I love me some Whitney Houston. She will always be in our hearts. My heart goes out to her entire family especially Cissy Houston because burying a child is the most awful feeling no matter how old they are. May her soul find eternal peace.

  28. How am I late? I posted this news the moment it happened… 2 days ago. I’m not late posting- you’re late commenting. ๐Ÿ˜†

  29. I must say Sista has a very positive site not none for controversy. however negative things happen sometime, she was just reporting the story the way it happen. Whitney was love by millions myself as one R.I.P.
Ray-J and Whitney seem fun of each others i didnโ€™t care for her with him the path heโ€™s on lately. My prayers goes out to all may God comforts their hearts.
