Whitney Houston Movie Gets Release Date + Stills

Lifetime’s upcoming Angele Bassett helmed film about the life of singer Whitney Houston has just been given an official airdate of January 17th.

Simply titled “Whitney,” the film will specifically chronicle the singer’s much publicized marriage to fellow R&B star Bobby Brown, which lasted from 1992 to 2007

As previously reported, Houston will be played by model/actress Yaya DaCosta, while Brown will be portrayed by Belizean actor Arlen Escarpeta.

The film isn’t sanctioned by the Houston or Brown family and Whitney’s daughter Bobbi Kristina has been very vocal about her displeasure with Bassett for not giving her a chance to read for the role of her mother.

However, unlike Lifetime’s recent Aaliyah biopic, Whitney’s will include the singer’s music, though vocals will actually be provided by singer Deborah Cox, who worked with Whitney on their duet “Same Script, Different Cast” back in 2000.
