Whitney Houston To Be Honored

If you thought Whitney Houston was planning on slowing down for 2010- think again. After the success of her recent album, “I Look To You,” Whitney will be commemorating the release of her debut self-titled album. “Whitney Houston” will be remastered and re-released early in 2010 for the album’s 25th anniversary. Released in 1985, the 13x Platinum album includes Houston’s #1 hits “Saving All My Love for You,” “How Will I Know,” and “Greatest Love of All.” The album will also be expanded with five bonus tracks, which include remixes of “Thinking About You,” “Someone for Me,” and “How Will I Know.” An a cappella version of “How Will I Know” will also be included, along with a live version of “Greatest Love of All.”

The set will also include a DVD, which includes newly recorded interviews with Whitney Houston and music mogul Clive Davis about the recording and release of the album that made Houston a superstar. The DVD also includes live performances, including her debut television performance, and music videos. “Whitney Houston: The Deluxe Anniversary Edition” hits stores on January 26th. Her latest album, “I Look To You,” featuring the singles “I Didn’t Know My Own Strength” and “Million Dollar Bill,” has sold nearly a million copies in the United States.

… and in other WH news, BET has announced that they will be honoring the comeback diva at this year’s “BET Honors” ceremony. The show will air February 1st and feature tribute performances from Jennifer Hudson, Patti Labelle and Mary J. Blige.

  1. Love Whitney best singer EVER. Also can’t wait to catch that BET Honors so far they have a great performance list.

  2. Yes, remind us why we love ya so much.
    This tribute line-up…
Well 1 maybe 2 out of 3 will do I guess.
Celine loves Whitney but of course that would never work huh. We skipped all over Cece, Yolanda, Fantasia, Aretha, Cousin Dionne, Christina Aguilera, & Tiffany Evans huh??? I hope they get at least 2 more people that ACTUALLY LOVE WHITNEY. If not, I’m sure someday she’ll get a REAL tribute (MJ too).

Patti my love, please take us to church!
Love Ya Whit, Congrats, God Bless.

  3. This is still by far my favorite singer of all time. I so love her!

  4. Sorry to say this but, after the tacky, triflin ghetto, piece of garbage the BET Awards and Soul Train Awards did in honoring Michael Jackson, how dare they honor Whitney Houston. I know she is a living legend but shouldn’t they make up for the Michael tribute they tried to do over the summer. It was really pathetic. This man changed the face of music. The only one to actually keep the essence of African music and dance alive, and shattered glass ceilings and the only thing they can do was come up with something at the last minute? Whitney Houston is my girl, but come on, the only reaon why they are honoring her is because she was snubbed by the Grammy Association. She deserves it, but knowing the magnitude of BET creativity and limited imagination and less than adequate work ethic, it will be another first draft rehersal tribute with all the ghetto fixings to boot. Our legends will never get the proper send off her honor if other blacks are conducting the train ride.

  5. OMG, if one more person mentions another MJ tribute! YES THE MAN CHANGED MUSIC, and I love the man. BUT he’s had so many tributes it’s unbelieveable. I don’t want to see another tribute. It sucked last time so why RE-DO it. I don’t think none of our legends will get a perfect tribute. Why? Because they can’t be duplicated. *SHRUGS*

  6. I’ll take this one since I did mention MJ first.

I think it’s safe to say nobody is talking about people matching the honoree’s talent in the tribute or any network who has done one to go out and “RE-DO” it. People just want to see a tribute that is well thought out, planned, and carried out, something that in fact will be a real tribute with people who actually love these artists. Nothing thrown together by any network out of pity, obligation etc. and done without care, for views or whatever.

    No??? Yes.

  7. Congrats Whitney!!!
I agree with Bohwe, I think BET is honoring her, for her snub. but…whatever. I’m happy for her!!

  8. Ok, now I understand @Discernment.
But it is fair to say that MJ and even Whitney have already had decent tributes, even if there are other networks who have attempted to do some but failed. I’d like to honestly see more tributes geared towards those who haven’t had one yet.
