Who Taught You To Hate?

I recently came across this video of the late Malcolm X asking very poignant questions. Rather you choose to believe it or not, self-hate is still alive and well. But not only does it thrive within our community, self-hate crosses cultural boundaries as so many strive to achieve society’s European standard of beauty.

Who taught you to hate the texture of your hair?

Who taught you to hate the color of your skin?

Who taught you to hate the shape of your nose and the shape of your lips?

Who taught you to hate yourself from the top of your head; to the soles of your feet?

Who taught you to hate your own kind?

Who taught you to hate the race that you belong to? So much so that you don’t want to be around each other.

Who taught you to hate being what God gave you?

Please watch the video below in its entirety. Towards the end of the video, Malcolm X shares his sentiments about how Black women should be valued.

  1. This was really good to wake up too.I’m going to look up more of his videos

  2. Brother Malcolm is 100% correct. Subconsciously we do not like our African features. We buy into the hype of The EUROCENTRIC standard of beauty. As a Black man, I`m constantly seeing sistas with these long flowing weaves and wigs.
White America has really done a masterful pysche job on us and we don`t even realize it.

And the truth of the matter is they really envy us for our pigment and the whole 9 yards. It`s called reverse psychology on their part. They despise their void of pigment so they have to play this pyche game in order to feel better about themselves. And as usual, we fall prey to it.

Peace, in the spirit of my “HERO”, Brother Malcolm X

  3. Great point, Smooth Criminal.

It is definitey a massive scheme to disguise their desire for our natural attributes. They pay for full lips, ample breasts, bronze skin (tanning is a multi-BILLION dollar industry), round derriers and they perm their hair to reflect a naturally curly texture. However, I can’t credit White Americans with this feat, Europeans initiated this mentality centuries ago. That’s the reason why Indians (from India) bleach their skin as well as Africans, and Asians. African Americans adopted this mindset during slavery (Willie Lynch). Now, the issue is how do we solve this self-hatred?

  4. I dont like Malcolm X or any “black power” spokesperson. Sorry…

Sepiastar; stop blaming the “white man”. He is no longer forcing Blacks to hate their skin/hair/features. They do it to themselves. While “they” had influence on it, “some” Black people are the ones who continue to to hate themselves & carry it on.
If they cant fight it, they should deal with it and stop complaining.
