Singer Jill Scott is returning to television. The three-time Grammy winner will reportedly play the villainous Lady Eve in the upcoming CW drama Black Lightning. The DC Comics character is described as a funeral parlor owner who quickly becomes the adversary of the show’s protagonist (Black Lightning) as she is revealed to be the bridge between the underworld and a secret group of corrupt leaders.

Rapper Eve shifts back into actress mode tonight thanks in part to her role on the VH1 hit series Daytime Divas. The former EVE star, who fronted her own show on the UPN from 2003-2006, will begin a multi-episodic arc playing Cecile James, a conivingly ambitious author who quickly finds herself butting heads with the catty ladies of a popular daytime talk show (The Lunch Hour) she’s agreed to appear on.

Get ready to say goodbye to Scandal, Gladiators. According to published reports, season seven of the hit ABC political drama will be its last. The show’s creator and showrunner, Shonda Rhimes, will reportedly make the announcement at the network’s Upfront presentation on May 16th.

The Grammys Won’t Bow Down to Beyonce
While I was unable to watch this year’s live Grammy telecast, I was able to keep track of what was going on thanks to Twitter. I know Adele cursed and stopped the show because she messed up her George Michael tribute. I know Beyoncé looked pretty while performing songs no one had ever heard of. I know Bruno Mars gave a spectacular Prince tribute. I know Rihanna continues to be snubbed in the pop category, and that black folks are mad… again… because the Grammys’ predominately white voters did not bestow Album of the Year honors on Beyoncé.

Essence magazine’s 8th Annual Black Women in Music event was held last night at the NeueHouse in Hollywood, California. This year’s ceremony honored singer Erykah Badu, who per usual, showed up and showed out. Erykah was literally drooling jewelry as she graced the red carpet in a black velvet gown from Ashi Studio’s 2016 Fall Couture Collection.
