Missy Elliott to Appear on ‘Star’
Missy Elliott has landed a role on the Fox series Star. The struggling Empire spin-off has booked the rapper in a recurring role where she essentially plays herself: a recording artist and music producer. Pumpkin, Missy’s character, will have an extended arc that should begin around the mid-season mark and extend until the end of the season. Missy will also perform on several episodes and contribute original songs to the show’s upcoming soundtrack.
Missy Elliott is back with the video for her new Pharell-assisted single WTF. The Dave Meyers directed visual is Missy’s first in almost seven years and does an excellent job at reminding us why she is considered one of the genres all-time greats.
Earlier this week VH1 announced their hit show “Behind the Music” will be returning on June 29th with an episode featuring rapper/producer Missy Elliott. According to the show’s executive producer Brad Abramson, Elliott was very forthcoming in her interview and spoke openly about her weight and being sexually abused as a child.
For the first time Missy will also speak openly about the health scare that caused her to step away from the music scene for a few years. Missy reportedly has Graves Disease and has been battling the debilitating effects since 2005.
Besides Missy, this season will also feature episodes dedicated to Mary J. Blige, Ice Cube, Ricky Martin, Miranda Lambert and Enrique Iglesias.
Monica Takes the #SoGoneChallenge
As previously reported, singer Monica has returned to the studio to record the follow-up to her 2015 album Code Red. The singer’s next project will be produced by Missy Elliott, who along with Monica, took time off from recording to participate in the So Gone Challenge, a hashtag that took off on social media that features people rapping over the beat to Monica’s 2003 Missy-produced single So Gone.
Singer Janet Jackson is reportedly shooting a new video. The pop icon’s longtime choreographer, Gil Duldulao, shared the news with fans a few days ago, but didn’t specify which Unbreakable single the video was being shot for. Fans have speculated it’s for Dammn Baby, but if I had to take a guess I’d say it’s for the Missy Elliott assisted single BurnItUp.
