Casting Chronicles: Nia Longs Joins ‘The Goldbergs’ Spinoff
Nia Long is returning to television. Just one season after her ABC comedy Uncle Buck was canceled, Nia has decided to rejoin the network- agreeing to co-star in the upcoming spinoff of their hit series The Goldbergs. The 90’s-set dramedy will feature the 45-year old actress as a widowed mother of three who enrolls her children in a school led by an eccentric and quirky cast of characters.
Nia Long Joins Empire for Season 3 Extended Arc
In addition to her upcoming appearance in the Lifetime remake of Beaches, fans can also expect to see actress Nia Long in a recurring capacity on this season of Empire. According to published reports, Nia, 46, will play Giuliana, a Las Vegas queen pin who makes a series of brash moves in an attempt to secure a deal with Empire.
Nia Long Lands Recurring Role on Netflix Comedy ‘Dear White People’
Nia Long is set to join Netflix’s upcoming comedy Dear White People. The former Uncle Buck star will have a recurring role playing the part of African-American studies professor Neika Hobbs. Dear White People is based on the 2014 Sundance film of the same name and will be produced by television veteran Yvette Lee Bowser.
Beaches Remake to Star Nia Long and Idinia Menzel
Actress Nia Long is set to co-star alongside singer Idinia Menzel in the upcoming Lifetime remake of the classic Bette Middler/Barbara Hershey film Beaches. Long will take on the role of Hillary Whitney, originally played by Hershey, while Menzel will take on the role of C.C. Bloom, originally played by Middler. According to Lifetime both characters will get minor background changes and updated storylines.
Roxanne Shante Biopic Lands Actress Nia Long
Looks like Nia Long isn’t sweating the cancellation of her recent ABC sitcom Uncle Buck. Instead, the 44-year old actress has picked herself up and moved on to the next gig, namely a starring role in the upcoming Roxanne Shante biopic.
ABC May Have Shelved Uncle Buck
So, what’s going on with Uncle Buck, the new ABC comedy starring Mike Epps and Nia Long? I periodically find myself looking for the show on HULU, only to come up empty handed. I finally checked the ABC press site, but that yielded little to no answers as to why the show has yet to air, despite it being screened to members of the press months ago. After a bit more digging I discovered the show has yet to be added to ABC’s winter line-up.

Nia Long fans will be pleased to hear the actress will be returning to network television next month when her new ABC comedy Uncle Buck officially makes its prime time debut. I recently got the opportunity to watch the pilot episode- and while Full House style comedies usually aren’t my thing- I found Uncle Buck mostly tolerable thanks to Nia and comedian Mike Epps.
