Jill Scott to Star in Lifetime Film About the Flint Water Crisis
In addition to her tour this summer, singer Jill Scott also plans to return to the small screen via Flint, the upcoming Lifetime movie about the government poisoning of Flint, Michigan’s water supply. According to the Hollywood Reporter, the film will explore the true story of three activists fighting to expose the cover-up, as well as seek justice for those affected the city’s lead-tainted water lines.
First Look: ‘Girls Trip’ Trailer
Universal Picture has released a first look at their upcoming all female-led comedy Girls Trip, starring Regina Hall, Queen Latifah and Jada Pinkett Smith. The Malcolm D. Lee-helmed flick follows four life-long friends who plan a road trip to the Essence Music Festival, where they hope to repair their strained sisterhood.

Actresses Jada Pinkett Smith and Queen Latifah, last seen together in the 1996 film Set it Off, are set to reunite in the upcoming Will Packer dramedy Girl Trip. Both actresses are reportedly in final negotiations to join Regina Hall who was cast earlier this year.
‘Empire’ Spin-off ‘Star’
So here it is folks, your first look at Star, the Empire spin-off Fox picked up earlier this year for a thirteen episode run this fall. The show stars Ryan Destiny, Jude Demorest and Brittany O’Grady as an up-and-coming Atlanta girl group looking to make it to the bigtime. Emmy Award-winning raptress Queen Latifah also has a lead role and will play a beauty shop owner who acts as a sort of surrogate mother to the trio.
Empire creator Lee Daniels has cast Queen Latifah as the lead of his next music-themed show for the Fox network. The as yet untitled project will revolve around a girl group, set to be played by newcomers Ryan Destiny (Low Winter Sun), Brittany O’Grady (The Messengers) and Jude Demorest (Dallas).
Queen Latifah will play Carlotta, a beauty shop owner who befriends the girls and becomes a sort of surrogate mother to the trio.
